Heather Smyth Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 I do both a personal morning and evening workout. Both workouts increase my adreanline and hype me up. I do not mind this usually, but for a while I was having trouble sleeping after my night workout. I began to read about meditation. I have gained a lot of insight with the knowledge I have obtained, but I am not gaining that relaxation factor I expected. I am relaxed enough to sleep an hour or so later. Do any of you meditate, if so give me some pointers.Heather You are only as good as you believe you can be!
Sohan Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 I do. 20 mins in the AM, 20 mins at night. I sleep like a baby and can think much more clearly with much better focus. I enjoy doing puzzles after meditation because my mind has become still and pure and the solutions seem extremely obvious. There are different methods of meditation that work for different people. I practice Soto Zen meditation, where you sit in zazen and seek to still the mind by being aware without acting upon any thoughts. There are other methods, of course. With respect,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth." The basic thing is to get into the same habits, so that when you do medititate, you are already conditioned to get in the mindset easier.I don't do a lot of meditation personally, but I do a lot of visualization exercises and border on self hypnosis. I've done these throughout my competitive career (35 years and going strong... )Aodhan There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.-Douglas Everett, American hockey player

lordtariel Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 I spend about 10 min in meditation most every time before I practice. I also meditate as needed when I'm stressed. There's no place like 127.0.0.1

patusai Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 I use to meditate in the morning and evening. I also used calming music in the mid afternoon during my afternoon break. Sadly, I do not seem to find the time to do this anymore and it shows I am afraid. Thanks for the post. It has given me something to slow down a bit and find a few minutes, as before, for reflection and calming.
