tke010
Question, While grappling last night, I felt a sharp pinch on the right side of my abdomen. I finished class, but using a much less intense effort. It was not a sharp pain, but it was knawing at me until i went to sleep. (able to walk around, but can feel it most when going up\down stairs)This morning the knawing pain was less, but still there. Is this just a muscle pull? or could it be something more? or am i just being a paranoid freak!Abdomen pain has never happened to me before. Has anyone ever gone through this. How long should i rest for (and not train) or train, but take it easy. (My wife told me to go to the docs if its not better in a day or 2 and thatv I'm just getting old , I'm olny 31)(i usually train about 2 hours a night, 5 days a week)Thanks in advance for everyones feedback!!! Sohan
Depends. Can you feel where it hurts with your fingers or is it deeper? Do you feel swelling or a bump there? Try icing it and wait 24 hours to see if it improves. If it doesn't or worsens during that time, take your wife's advice and see a doctor immediately. With respect,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth." Its feeling better than yesterday, so that seems to be a good thing. Fear does not exist in this Dojo, does it! No Sensai!!!Pain does not exist in this Dojo, does it! No Sensai!!! The sooner you get ice on the injury, the sooner you cut down on any swelling.Where in your abdomen? Ribcage, belt line, crease of the leg?AodhanP.S. Wrap the ice in something, don't just plop bare ice down on your side. tke010
Its on the right side of the belt line, just above the hip bone. Fear does not exist in this Dojo, does it! No Sensai!!!Pain does not exist in this Dojo, does it! No Sensai!!!
Aodhan
Its on the right side of the belt line, just above the hip bone.Hrm. It's a bit too far to the right to be a traditional (inguinal) hernia. There are a lot of oblique muscles (The ones responsible for twisting the torso) that anchor in that area, though. Was it a "pinch" sensation, or a "pop" sensation? If it was a pinch, I'd suspect a muscle pull/strain, and ice and rest should do you fine. If it was a "pop" sensation, then it could be more serious. Rest and ice, if it still hurts after a few days, see your doc.Aodhan There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.-Douglas Everett, American hockey player
tke010
Thanks for the info...yes i was in full twist when it happened.here was the exact play by play how it happened:I got both hands wrapped around and was controlling my opponents head, twisting downwards (corkscrew) to take him to the ground, felt a sharp pinch, did not complete the takedown - let go and stepped back keeping guard. he stopped because he noticed. (I realized I twisted my waiste prior to stepping my right foot back, normally do both at the same time)We went back at it, but in a much easier fashion. Fear does not exist in this Dojo, does it! It should heal quickly if you let it, but the problem is it's part of your core which you use for everything. Don't do anything that causes pain of discomfort, because that means you're reinjuring it again.
