Hogosha Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 Hey, I'm using skipping as a cardio workout and just wanted to know how many I should doing and for how long? - Hogosha
patusai Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 My understanding is cardio is best done with your pulse at a reletively high level for at least 20 minutes. "Don't tell me the sky's the limit because I have seen footprints on the moon!" -- Paul Brandt
Sohan Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 Work up slowly. Do sets of 3 minute rounds starting with just 2 or 3 and work up to 8 or 10 (or more if you like) with one minute rest periods. Never skip barefoot unless on a cushioned mat.Respectfully,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth." Aodhan Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Pulse rate is your best measure. You want to keep your heartrate at 60-75% of max for 20 minutes or more to get cardio benefits.Aodhan There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.-Douglas Everett, American hockey player
greenbelt_girl15 Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 I'd alsso go with pulse rate.I do know that skipping rope burns calories way faster than running. So you don't need to go as long as if you were running. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of love, a spirit of power, and of self-discipline.2 Timothy 1:7

It's not like running faster or turning up a notch on the Lifecycle--your intensity is fairly constant. And it's not very practical to check HR during the activity. Doing interval training skipping can provide many of the same aerobic benefits of continuous cardio, especially when the rest periods are fairly short.Respectfully,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth."
