SaiFightsMS Posted April 20, 2002 Posted April 20, 2002 The speedball gives you a stationary target that does not require a partner to see how well you target head level kicks. Shear frustration at first no matter what you are doing. Intense satisfaction when you finally manage to hit the thing 5 or 6 times in a row. After you get the targeting and timing down it is a type of upper body endurance work out. _________________ KarateForums Sempai Shotokan Karate, bo, sai Karate means a better life [ This Message was edited by: SaiFightsMS on 2002-04-20 12:25 ]
Bon Posted April 22, 2002 Posted April 22, 2002 I used a speed ball thing that has a rope going from the roof to the floor with the bouncy thing about head height. It was awesome, I was at a party and I must have stood there for at least half an hour by myself just hitting the damn thing. Good for reflexes and accuracy, you have to learn to react, not think about hitting it. It takes sacrifice to be the best. There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy.
YODA Posted April 22, 2002 Posted April 22, 2002 Hey Bon - that's not a speed ball, it's a floor to ceiling ball, or somethimes called a top & bottom bag. Great tool though YODA2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.ukQualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.ukQualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology)

YODA Posted April 23, 2002 Posted April 23, 2002 No Ad - it's different. Works more on your timing & control of cadence. Still a great tool though but it must be set up right. Ahazmaksya Posted April 24, 2002 Posted April 24, 2002 Bon I have done the same thing. Went to a party, the bloke had Speed Ball's, Floor to ceiling balls, some punching bags and 6 or 7 pairs of gloves...It went off
striking_cobra Posted April 24, 2002 Posted April 24, 2002 a speed ball will also tone your arms, it'll help with your muscle endurance (if you use it for long periods of time) and as yoda pointed out...hand eye coordination and timing. plus the most obvious thing...speed. plus another cool exersize that i did not learn from rocky! lol, is to have someone blow bubbles and punch them that'll work on your hand eye coordination too...(good things to have no matter what ma your doing...)
