racerx Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Hi. I am moving to Olney, Md. I have a 9 yr old boy who wants to start training. I don't want a cookie cutter belt mill. I want him to learn to avoid violence when he can and meet it head on when it's necessary. Can anyone recommend a good school, preferably ground and standing techniques, that teaches kids? thanks!
zudo Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 the best thing to do, I think, is a call a few local schools and ask if you can watch (or maybe they even offer free lessons), ask them what they do, style wise and if they do ground fighting etc. If your bold enough, ask them if they can do a sparring demonstration, and see if it looks like a reasonable fight...My 2 cents -hi--hello, who are you?-nobody
JWLuiza Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 https://www.tkasudo.comWe have a location at Longwood Rec Center in Olney, we're cheap and have no contracts. Monday nights (not sure of the time). That's where I started 15 years ago!
Brandon Fisher Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 There is a school in Damascus, MD that is op notch but I think thats a little bit of a haul from Rockville. But I would contact them. The man name is Tim Gilbert at Gilberts Martial Arts Academy. He is a 8th dan in Shorin Ryu and very knowledgeable and a very nice man. Let him know I sent you and ask him if he can help you. He should remember me but it has been awhile since I saw him last. Brandon FisherSeijitsu Shin Do
