i started running on the treadmill 3 times a week at the speed of 5.5 to burn some fat. should i also use a sweater when running? or a sauna suit? a freind of mine who was a personal trainer said the suana suit is only good when you want to drop weight before a tournament or something, not an everyday thing to use. he also said dont use a sweater. anyone have an opinion on this?

Not only will it only help you lose waterweight, because you're losing more water, you'll get dehydrated faster and your performance will drop off.

The whole sauna suit thing is for making weight for a fight/match. It is a temp deal and if done incorrectly or on a regular basis can be bad for you. Sweating more than you need to can dehydrate you and you can lose electrolytes and other important nutrients. If you don't know what you are doing you also risk heat stroke.

For regular cardio you want to be as cool as you can be and well hydrated. You can run on an empty stomach, but I usually have a little something before I go. If you want to burn more fat then go long and slow. Go to http://www.runnersworld.com/newindex/0,,s6-0-0-0-0,00.html for more tips on running.

You will burn more fat if you have an empty stomach, but like anything, there is a balance. Don't over do it. What I do is wake up, go for a run then have breakfast. That way, I don't feel bloated (losing a bit more fat is a bonus) and then I'm replacing the nutrients I need straight away.

Not unless you are going for runs upwards of 90 minutes. Your muscles use glycogen for fuel. When that is close to exhausted is when the brain starts kicking out hormones to cause fat to start breaking down into different parts that can be used for glycolosis. That takes a lot longer than most people are running for.

I've heard caffeine means your body breaks down more lipids. Possibly an espresso before the run?

I run every other morning before breakfast, the disadvantage is that I'm then knackered for lectures but hey everyone sleeps through them anyway.

What's the technique for running? Do you dig your heels in when you run? or run on the point of the feet?

Thanks
