dotc Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 This may seem really stupid, but does any one get a crazy rash from using Thai pads or kick-shields on their forearms? Unless I wear a long sleeve t-shirt to train in, I get covered in an angry red rash from where the thai pad rests against my arms. It lasts two or three days and is really unpleasant. I am wondering if I am allergic to leather (or vinyl?) or is there some sort of funky bacteria growing on those ancient pads (Which I doubt have ever been cleaned)?
Jeet Kune Do Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 probably because they are Ancient, get some new ones and see the results A drop of sweat spent in practice is a drop of blood saved in a battle.A person who say it cannot be done should not interrupt the man doing it.
Jiffy Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Could be a combination of both. Give them a really good wash and see if that fixes the problem. If not, might be worth seeing your doctor for an allergy test. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
dotc Posted April 10, 2006 Author Posted April 10, 2006 If they were mine i'd burn them, but alas they are not. I find it strange, however (and a little disturbing)... Long-sleeve t-shist does the trick, I was just curious if anyone else has even had seen something like this.

You might want to consider washing them based on the manufacturers directions. If they are really old I'd toss them and find something else...but was that something else after each use... jaymac Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 Keep in mind dotc, that if you are having an allergic reaction to these, the reaction will get more severe everytime you expose yourself. Severe enough to cause respiratory problems that can lead to respiratory arrest! A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.
