jaymac Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Very well written. I think that it is very unfortunate for that man to disregard Aikido in this way because the instructor stated that he did not believe that his art is the best. That instructor is humble is his style, but accurate in his statement. In this day and age, people are only interested in MMA because that is what is being put on TV. I have found that MMA is not a true style. It is a mixture of many styles. I am not saying it isn't effective, it just does not have the Traditional teachings of so many of the other styles. I have been disgusted lately with my subscription to Black Belt magazine. It focuses heavily on MMA and is leaving behind the Traditional styles of MA. Had I known that was going to happen, I would not have renewed. A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.
Treebranch Posted March 15, 2006 Author Posted March 15, 2006 I like his statements on "Assumptions", it's so true and so accurate. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
red dawn Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 great article! I enjoyed reading it! I never said it wasn't dangerous.
patusai Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 Excellent. It was well worth the reading. Thank you "Don't tell me the sky's the limit because I have seen footprints on the moon!" -- Paul Brandt
bushido_man96 Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 I like this article! I especially like the point it makes about assumptions. The level of specializations are very critical points as well. I really like the analogy made about the knife fighter. It is also refreshing to know that there are some instructors out there who will tell you that there is no ultimate style to learn, especially their own. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
granmasterchen Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 nice read. That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
juey palancu Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 That was a beautifully written article that is full of wisdom. I would like to meet Sensei Takamura, he seems like a really interesting character. He really outsmarted and out-strategized the young karateka-wrestler guy!Props to the writer and thanks for sharing it!Osu,Gero
