Side problems

Recommended Posts

I recently injured my side in class. I think I was just pushing myself too hard and strained something. I wound up going to the doctor cause my rib was super tender, I was afraid I might have cracked it. He said that the rib wasn't broken but the muscle may have pulled away from the rib and that I just needed to continue using ibuprofin and heat to work it out. My problem is, I keep going to class and making it sore. It's not getting any worse, but I'm practiaclly an invalid right after class. Anyone have any experience with this kind of injury? How long does it usually take to heal?

Yeh, seriously, I'm not a dr, so I'm not directing you to do/not do anything, but I'm biomedical engineering student and I work in wound healing, and without continued trauma (like training), the wounds in our animals (not tearing like would be in your cases- we have the less traumatic cutting wounds) healing takes about 2-6 weeks. Given this, if it were me, I'd really rest for 4 weeks and go easy another 4. Just my 2cents worth, though.

i agree, if you still are training in class after your incident, your not giving any time for healing. if the muscle pulled from the rib, and you work out, you are just pulling what your body is trying to heal back away from the rib. take it easy if you can for a bit.
