BLOWN Posted March 3, 2006 Share Posted March 3, 2006 Whats up everybody? I have a question. I've been tyring to lose weight but seem to not be doing such a great job at it. Im a big guy and extremly athletic and competitive. I've been playing sports my whole life. For my size, im extremly fast. I'm 6'0 and weigh 255lbs. Granted I don't look obese whatsoever, I would like to lose some of the excess fat.I do JKD twice a week for 2.5-3 hours, and thats one hell of a workout our SiFu gives us, and i hit the gym 3 days a week. I'm there for 2 hours and focus on Hitting the heavy bag for a while, jump rope, push ups/sit ups, and run/walk on the treadmill. Been doing this for one month now and have not lost 1lb. What is going on here?I feel a siginificant increase in my arm strength and endurance, but I haven't lose any weight! -Ray -Pain Is Weakness Leaving The Body.-It's Not The Size Of The Dog In The Fight, But The Size Of The Fight In The Dog. If they're starting to feel looser then you're doing great. If not, then your diet is probably the problem. You see, when you workout a lot and put on more muscle the number on the scale can stay the same, but the fat gets burned and you start putting on muscle which weighs a great deal more. Also depending on how long you've been training, it could take some time to start seeing the results. Also you culd be over training. marie curie Posted March 3, 2006 Share Posted March 3, 2006 Hey, I lost like 30 lbs (I was 167 and I'm a girl!) by cooking full meals with veggies and everything more (so less eating out) and eating every 3 hours 5 times a day (smaller meals) Liiiiike, for breakfast I'll have some fruit or cereal or, yes, even a pastry plus a carnation instant breakfast. Around 11am I take half of my lunch break (7.5 mins) and have like a cheese and cracker or pb and cracker pack, plus some real fruit gummies and like a pudding or applesause or fruit cup or yogurt.Around 2pm I have a big sandwich like a burger or chicken or ham, plus some little snack (a couple cookies or something so I don't feel like I'm depriving myself of the junk)Around 5pm I have a real dinner entree (maybe smaller) some veggies, and a bread thing or potatoesAround 8pm I have something healthy-ish like cereal and something like ice cream or a chocolate bar.The real thing to watch is keep your portions small.... The thing about this is that you don't have the sugar highs and lows that happen with 3 big meals, so you dont really get that sleepy feeling after you get to the digesting so its easier to stay active all day, like I'm not dragging at work, and I've still got the energy in the evening to train or work out! (I could be wrong)I usually don't eat breakfast, But I eat a big big lunch and maybe a snack at night time. It's hard for me to eat breakfast. I've just never done it and it would take some getting used to. I usually Go to sleep around midnight-1am, wake up on avergae around 7'ish, go to work or school depending the day, come home around 3-4pm, take a nap for a couple hours, wake up, go out or hangout at my house, and go back to bed at midnight or 1am. So I sleep like twice a day if I include my nap =)I have no patience when it comes to eating a 'small snack' and stuff. I like to eat! Eating 5 small portions a day would really really REALLY be difficult for me I guess I'm going to atleast try it. Hopefully your martial art can give you the dicisipline you need to carry out REASONABLE and practical plans, while also looking at your main and most desired objective. Your not wrong, diet is a huge part of your lifestyle. You would not put crappy diesel in a sports car...would not run the same....so why put crap in your body if your training with a goal in mind.Good luck and i am sorry for the rubbish analogy!!!-Ray Be like water my friend!! The way I eat(or try to and succeed most days) is simple...if it grows or eats something that grows, I eat it, if not, then I don't. Nothing processed, lots of water, and supplementation. I take a multi-vitamin and extra protein when needed, and am using a nitric oxide stimulator, which is a vaso-dilator/increases blood flow and promotes healing.Watch your caloric intake, and be sure to get adequate protein when cutting calories to stave off catabolism(a nasty thign that happens when your muscles use themselves for fuel...common when cutting calories to lose weight, hence the protein supplementation). Lots of water. What helped me is keeping a food journal. At first it's a pain in the buttocks to write every little thing down that you eat...that's your first clue. I actually got to the point where I skipped some junk food becuase I didn't want to have to write it down. It's also interesting at the end of the night to read over what you ate for the day and ask yourself "did I really need those three hostess orange cupcakes and that liter of mountain dew?" other than that just two small things in addition to the weights and heavy bag...aerobics and cardio. Make them your two best friends.It worked/is working for me.Disclaimer: you have to stick with it for any plan to work...sometimes one month isn't enough.Although, I was losing about three pounds a week with my plan. Was...now it's difficult because of my living and work arrangements. But I'm getting there again. I also allow myself sundays to eat whatever I want and as much of it as I want. That is IF I stuck to my plan all week long...kind of an incentive.good luck, brother.
