There are a couple extra belt levels for the kids though.

For my jujitsu, which isn't the same organization, there's only white, green, brown, and black.

And, of course, there are more dan levels.

If you're reaching for the stars, don't be satisfied with touching the ceiling.

Same as me, but since last year they have introduced intermediate grade for each belt using double colored belts... so it goes white,white-Yellow, Yellow, Yellow-Orange,Orange, Orange-Green,....,Brown, Brown-Black,Black.

in Saishu Ryu this is how our belts work.

White (9th Kyu)

White w/ 1 stripe (8th Kyu)

White w/ 2 stripes (7th Kyu)

Green (6th Kyu)

Green w/ 1 stripe (5th Kyu)

Green w/ 2 stripes (4th Kyu)

Brown (3rd Kyu)

Brown w/ 1 stripe (2nd Kyu)

Brown w/ 2 stripes (1st Kyu)

Black - Shodan

Black - Nidan

Black - Sandan

Black - Yondan

whatever happened to the old fashioned traditional method. wear a white belt until it turns black from the grit, dirt, and blood from training, and then wear it until it turns white again. That is when you know you have mastered the basics

LOL, that is outstanding. You know that is total junk. Jigoro Kano introduced the belt system in the early 1900's. This whole thing is an urban legend and has no basis in reality.

I think hes just trying to say that belt ranking doesnt matter much...
