lilkarate75 Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 i do shaolin kung fu. im sumtimes sore after class, but its a good 2 hour practice. First courage, second power, and then technique.
Sohan Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 I am in TKD and I love it, ive been in it for about 3 years adn have done other styles but havent liked them as much as this one, i have recently earned my black belt and i am then going to find another style like kung fu to practice next, tell of your favorite styles! We added gung fu recently as part of our school. It's been great, though I'm not near ready to use it in real life. I like the low stances and shifting of weight and center of gravity, plus the footwork is challenging. But despite my background in Traditional Okinawan MA and our new study of Chinese MA, though, I think I really enjoy Thai boxing the best.Respectfully,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth." patusai Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Fairfax_Uechi made a good point. why change after getting started. Working on another style in addition to the one that you have a black 1st in may be more beneficial to you. There is so much out there in MA to learn. Read up on a number of availble MA look at a few classess in your are and see what excites you. Personally I enjoyed all of the MA that I have taken. Looking back, there are others I wish now that I would have experienced too. There is only so much time in a lifetime though. I'm wishing you the best of luck in your search and decision "Don't tell me the sky's the limit because I have seen footprints on the moon!" -- Paul Brandt
L0G1C Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 I agree most of you when I say: Why stop at Black belt? TKD is a great art and I respect it, but it's a great gateway MA. You'd find almost any other martial art pretty easy (stretch-wise). I think that you should take another MA rather than just restart. different styles complement each other really well. E.G. Thai boxing + TKD/ Kung/Bok FuWhat i find a bit peculiar is how you can get a black belt in only 3 years. In my system, it's an average of ten. but thats Bok-Fu.
