WudangDragon Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 I do three animal kung fu (Leopard, Tiger, Dragon). . . have dabbled in the other two (Snake, Crane) but didnt keep them up.Panther is a "second level" animal style and so isnt normally grouped as being one of the Shao-lin five. . . . "We follow the World,The World follows Heaven,Heaven follows Tao,Tao follows the way things are."
Kajukenbopr Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 yeah, it was my mistake, i tend to mix the 2 names up- leopard and panther.however, ive read that panther is part of the leopard, but at a more advanced stage. <> Be humble, train hard, fight dirty
Red J Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Don't forget that the snake is rooted and strikes with extreme accuracy to vital areas as well as the grappling and seizing that you mentioned. I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.
MizuRyu Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 I'm still doing it with him.. just on and off. It went from learning exclusively snake to his little mix as I found it to be a little more useful. The snake part of it is still the most fascinating to me. There's a strike that looks like VT's tan sao, where you shoot up from under the leading hand and strike the soft of the opponent's throat in an upward motion. I found myself using it in our VT class. There seem to be a lot of ties between snake and VT, and they compliment eachother well. "They look up, without realizing they're standing in the palm of your hand""I burn alive to keep you warm"
WudangDragon Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 I use that strike in a walk for LJK. . . 'tis a Spear Hand Strike. When preceeded by a block it is very effective... "We follow the World,The World follows Heaven,Heaven follows Tao,Tao follows the way things are."
Traditional-Fist Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 I found myself using it in our VT class.I believe that the move you just described actually exists in Wing Chun, at least in the lineage practiced by me.There seem to be a lot of ties between snake and VT, and they compliment eachother well.Wing Chun is a fascinating art that contains a lot of snake influence, specially at the latter stages of study. Of course, it also contains Crane, Tiger and Dragon influences. Use your time on an art that is worthwhile and not on a dozen irrelevant "ways".
