shotokanwarrior Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I heard one of his trainers say that he does not care if Chuck looks sloppy because he is going for a knockout with every punch. Where Art ends, nature begins.
Bushido58266 Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 people let us remember, its not about muscle its how well u time ur hits and put all ur weight into ur attacks and thats what liddell does "Bushido is realized in the presence of death""TapouT or PassouT"
BJJ is 1 Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Yeah, Chuck seems to time strikes realy well "Without Jiu Jitsu its like without my two legs."-Rickson Graciehttps://www.myspace.com/cobraguard
UseoForce Posted February 23, 2006 Author Posted February 23, 2006 I'm not saying its about muscle, I said its about power. If it works, use it!If not, throw it out!
elbows_and_knees Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 not sure if this has been said (haven't read the whole thread) but, 3 things about chuck:1. his angles2. he's just naturally heavy handed. If you're familiar with boxing classification of fighters, he'd be labeled a hard puncher.3. timing
elbows_and_knees Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 people let us remember, its not about muscle its how well u time ur hits and put all ur weight into ur attacks and thats what liddell doesmuscle does have something to do with it. why? because it's dense. it weighs more than fat. let's say I weigh 225 (which I do) and am mostly muscle(which I am). I dunno what you weigh, but let's say you are 140. if we both have PERFECT technique and strike with all of our body mass, I will still hit harder than you, for the simple fact that I weigh more. This is part of the reason there are weight classes. Also, properly trained muscle makes the body more efficient at what it does.
elbows_and_knees Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Yeah, I read he was a purple belt also.I have also heard rumors of Chuck going to PRIDE again bad move IMO, its harder to keep the fight standing in a ring v. a cage because you cannot use th ropes for support plus in PRIDE you have world class judo players like Yoshida and Ogawa who con take chuck down and even though he is a purple belt Chuck wont like being on the groundchuck doesn't mind the ground - that's what a lot of people don't know. in addition to training bjj for about 8 years, he's also been wrestling since he was a kid - he was a division 1 wrestler all through college...that means he's an awesome wrestler. It's his knowlege of grappling that enables him to win his fights, as that's where his takedown defense comes from. If it wasn't for that, he couldn't keep the fight standing so that he could KO people.
UseoForce Posted March 23, 2006 Author Posted March 23, 2006 I've said it over and over... Chuck is an enormously underrated grappler. If it works, use it!If not, throw it out!
BJJ is 1 Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Chuck probably is good on the ground, but I can almost guarantee his Bjj/ wrsting skills wont hold up against someone like Arona on the ground, his wrestling will help him sprawl or keep the fight on their feet, but if Chuck gets put on his back by a good grappler, I'm not sure he could hold his own "Without Jiu Jitsu its like without my two legs."-Rickson Graciehttps://www.myspace.com/cobraguard

He can more than hold his own, but that does not mean he is invincible. If it works, use it!If not, throw it out!
