Like most people, I take a whey protein supplement after I work out to promote muscle growth and recovery. I usually put it in a smootie of ice, skim milk, a banana, and a table spoon of peanut butter.

I lift weights or strength train 5 days a week. I was wondering, should I take some whey on the days I don't strength train? I'm still active on these days (They are usually days I have hapkido class), but not to the point that I'm dead tired and exerted like on a strength training day? Thanks.

If it works, use it!

If not, throw it out!

I've heard that you should take it every morning, right after waking. your body is basically starving, and whey is rapidly absorbed.

I usually don't like getting info from bodybuilder forums because their goals are much different than a martial artist or athelete's.

If it works, use it!

If not, throw it out!

a protein powder wont do either of those things. they wont make you huge, and they wont make you strong and explosive.

You do not need to be flexible to do a Jodan (head kick), if your opponent is already on the ground.

In the morning eat lots of carbs, they wont turn into fat cos you'll use them all up during the day. They give the energy to start up your day. In the evening eat proteins, low fat foods etc. Afterall you don't need much energy while sleeping.

Back to the topic ...

You should take your powder every day cos your muscles are growing while youre NOT working them. During the rest and recovery period.

Thing that makes you explosive is training. Do exercises that stimulate fast-twich muscle growth. But remember fast-twich muscle fatigues fast.

I've been working out in the gym for over 1,5 years now. And i still don't use protein powders. I eat extra minerals and vitamins tho. Basically i drink alot of milk, almost 1 litre a day. Well actually i only drink milk and water :) No coffe at all. I also have given up drinking juices and sodas because they are too sweet. I get my carbs elsewhere, but that's me :)

Little example:

The average 12-ounce (360 mL) can of soda pop contains about 40 grams of refined sugars. That's 10 teaspoons of pure calories. Would you ever eat 10 teaspoons of sugar at once?

Whoa, let me see:

1. I'm not taking protein to develope explosive power. I'm taking it to help my muscles recover after a workout. If I am going to be stong and explosive, my muscles cannot be weak, tired, and in a state of recovery.

2. I don't drink pop either, haven't for about a year. All it is is sugar!

3. I have my ply's and other explosive excersies laid out, I need no help there.

I'd still like to hear more replys :).

will whey help with gaining weight.Ive tried weight gain powders and lost weight using them during regular training.For open weight competition I like to be a little heavier
