I train everyday of the week for as long as i can. Usually 2 hours at home, sometimes only 1. During the weekends i like to train again as long as possible so that could be any amount of time depending on other stuff. Formal classes are wed and friday, i do grapple defense with my instructor on sat for 1 hour and on sundays are free workouts(2hours).

I'm interested to know what you train for grapple defense.

Myself, I'm currently doing shootwrestling twice a week (3 hours total) and weight lifting 3 to 4 times a week (3-5 hours total) plus the occasional bag work to keep up my striking.

Well ive only been doing it(grapple defense) for 3 weeks now so not much knowledge here. Right now my sensei is just showing me how i can apply shotokan to takedown techniques he knows from akido and judo. This sat ill have to learn how to stop takedowns using my stances. Yea so right now i know nothing of the subject, sorry.

Thanks for the replies everyone :D For those of you who have 4 or more formal classes a week. Are they physically demanding? Ncole you said you have 5 classes a week and then kickboxing and tae bo for cardio; dont you get the cardio in your shotokan classes? When I did shotokan I hardly ever broke a sweat, but I was young (11yr old). Just wondering if all classes are as knackering as mine :D Or are you guys just unbeliveble atheletes? :lol: As I said my JKD classes now leave everyone completely knackered even people who have been going for 15yrs.

I do five to six classes a week, depending on time, somtimes two classes a day. I did start out with 2 a week though and worked my way up. Our Shotokan classes are physically demanding, but as was stated in a different post, any class may be only as demanding as you permit them to be. I also think that you can get burnt out though but this is easy to avoid if you listen to your body. If you get all sore and tired, it may be time to back off a little. Take a day or two off. It won't hurt your training as much as getting a serious injury through overtraining which renders you unable to train for more than two weeks.

I try to train every day, attending classes at the dojo and on my own at home. I take shotokan and find that I get a great work out. The instructor puts us through great workouts at the beginning of class.

I train karate three times a week, and MMA for two times a week. And I have started to do some weightlifting six times a week in mornings.

I do an hour everyday, but sometimes I take a rest on Sundays

I do two 2 hour sessions a week, one on tuesday and one on thursday. I then have a pedal class on saturday and badmington (don't laugh) on sunday.

I'm looking for a new shotokan dojo so that I can train more often.
