Just got back from seeing the quack about my knee. :evil:

 

Last week on the penultimate day of our camp - I was sparring (all ranges) with one of my guys & we ended up on the ground with me on top in a cross-body position. We were on the flattened top of a mountain where there used to be a medieval fort - very "Weathertop" (but I digress :grin:)

 

As I was establishing my superior position two students who were also grappling rolled into us - and right over my ankle (my heel was up) - There was a loud CRACK from my left knee as my ankle was folded flat to the floor. Yeeeeouch!

 

It hurt at the time for about 5 minutes then was OK - I even ran the 2 miles or so back to base (stupid - hindsight is always 20/20). Next morning I could hardly walk!

 

So - it seems I've torn my Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) and may need surgery. Doc says NO physical activity from now until I see the specialist in 6-8 weeks- Yeah, Right!

 

Doh!

Doh!

 

Did I mention [b/DOH![/b] ?

 

Anyone had this? Any advice apart from the dreaded 4 letter word - Rest

Ah, man!!! Sounds terrible. If you have to wait to see a specialist in 6-8 weeks, and surgery to fix the problem, you'll probrably be out for a couple of months. Just take it in strides, man.

UBU - Upper Body Erogometer. If you can find one they are a great upper body only aerobic workout. Actually with a bit of creativity it is possible to train from a seated position.

i agree with saifight

 

try performing only hand movement excercises and upper body, such as crunches, press ups maybe?, stretching with your hands, forms (but of course only using your hands), use of a punch bag, but makes sure it doest retract and smack you straight on the knee.

as Sai and Ad said. Stick to the Upper Body Work and practice hand techniques.

 

Also, take time to do my research and mental training in the arts.

 

Something I do if I have free times to kill is work on my balance by standing on leg with eyes closed etc. Although Im not sure how "doable" that is in your state. The other one I use for hand-eye coordination is throwing a pingpong ball against the wall and catching it.

 

Bruce Lee was out for 6 months with a back injury, and he came back better than before. Dont lose hope! Theres still plenty of mental and upper body stuff you can do.

 

Bad luck, though.

I did something similar at a Special Training and was told the same thing. Listen to your doctor. Let the knee rest.

:mad: Bad luck! :mad:

 

I just poked Medial Collateral Ligament into a search engine and got loads of nasty looking pictures. Hopes it's not too serious.

 

Don't know what to suggest, I know how you feel tho i've had more then my fair share of injuries just recovered from a really bad ankle sprain. As you know complete rest will make the difference between a recovery of weeks or months.

Thanks for all the concern.

 

It's feeling a little better but still very painfull if I try to kneel or apply any twisting movement to it.

 

Rest - LOL! :lol:

 

I have a full schedule of classes & private lessons to teach - and this weekend our Eskrima Grandmaster is flying in from the US to teach us for the weekend. It's gonna have to be a case of train around it rather than rest - at least for the next week.

 

I've increased my Glucosamine Sulphate Dosage & I'm using a sports massage routine to increase blood & nutrient flow - Also I've got a friend with 25 years Tai Chi training coming over to work some magic spells on it - Hey -Ya never know! :grin: :lol:

You might want to get a support for your knee if you're going to be that active.
