DragonMike Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Yeah, one of the most important thing that you can do to build muscle is to take time to let them rest. Overtraining is very counter-productive. 5th Dan Tang Soo Do
MizuRyu Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Basically, working out actually makes you weaker. It's your body's rebuilding process that makes them stronger. The key to maximizing the efficiency of the process lies in lots of rest (8 to 10 hours of sleep a night and 3 days of working out a week), a proper diet, high protein intake (20-40 grams every 2 hours), and lots of water. Be sure to keep yourself in check with overtraining, back when I started lifting my freshman year in high school, I noticed declines in my strength and weight because I was training too enthusiastically. Hogosha Posted January 25, 2006 Author Posted January 25, 2006 Well I have decided I'll do 30 press ups a day and 30 situps with weights on my chest a day. For my weights I've been doing 3 reps of 10 on all my workouts every day, is that too much? - Hogosha

But remember to eat right, lotsa protein, and get a full night's sleep.
Hogosha Posted January 25, 2006 Author Posted January 25, 2006 Well I've only been doing them for nearly a month, I have been doing:3 Reps of 10:Weights:Tricep ExtensionFront RisesArm CurlsUpright RowsSquatsDumbell PressNormal:Press UpsSit UpsI get a good nights sleep and I think I'm eating well, I get plenty of rest too. MizuRyu Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 I'd DEFINATLY throw bench presses in there. I'd hit the legs a little harder in that routine too, deadlifts are a good compliment to squats, but that's just my little training thingy. Also, throw out the sit ups. Crunches are the only way to go, sit ups can waste energy and don't directly benefit the larger group of abs as much as crunches do. If you don't have a bar for bench press by the way, just do super slow pushups, OR put cement blocks on your back! worked for me pretty well when i was on vacation and weightless. Hogosha Posted January 25, 2006 Author Posted January 25, 2006 I don't have the bench for bench presses, I can only do dumbell presses because I have an exercise ball. So crunches are definatlly better than sit ups? - Hogosha
