Freestyle Posted January 1, 2003 Posted January 1, 2003 I was a 3rd dan in traditional karate. Now I'm simply a "black belt" in freestyle karate. I run my own class and I am "independent", in other words I no longer belong to a large organization. I work out with anyone I think has the skill, been doing quite a bit of cross training lately, kickboxing and grappling. We don't emphasize dan grades after "black belt". 24 years training. Teaching for 20 years. Glad to be here.

iolair Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 Seidokan - 4th Kyu (Blue Belt) (was about to attempt grade up when a hip injury put me out of training for a year) Seido - 8th Kyu (Blue Belt) Shotokan - 1 year's study (no grading taken) Judo - 1 year's study (no grading taken) I've avoided gradings for 10 years now, in any case! Currently: Kickboxing and variants.Previously: Karate (Seido, Shotokan, Seidokan), Ju Jitsu, Judo, Aikido, Fencing.
