I don't think vitamins will effect you stretching as it's a nerve reflex which you are training to over come.

It might help with the strength work tho i choose to just eat like a horse.

In answer to whether or not this effects my fighting ability i'd saw a big yes! Tho obviously the posing is just for show.

with strong legs i tend to kick with just my leg and not my whole body, less effort and quicker recovery. I also rely heavily on downward kicks hook and axe kicks being my 2 most favoured and effective kicks. incoomiiiiing!

I've found it helps my punching too. just throwing the leg gives me a quick recovery to follow in with my hands and i also punch and kick people pretty much at the same time.

Check out Bill Wallace amazing kicker all from the same raised knee position lightening

Good flexibility is not only for kicking high, but more making kicking at a medium or low level easier and more fluid. Also people do not only do the MA for real combat, some may enjoy it for other reasons. I doubt anybody here would attempt a high level kick in a real situation anyways.

Bretty I don't personally like the ankle weight technique you recommended. My knees got really painful after I started doing it, so I've stopped. Knees are getting better now. Basically don't try that exercise if you have knee problems.

Time to do my stretching, bye.

Fair enough! the same excercises don't always work for every one!

I Got really bad knees mate and i find if i keep my leg straight at all times i don't feel any pain in my knees. I totally agree that doing leg extensions with ankle weights on is really really bad as it's easy to hyper extend.

The worst thing i have found fo my knees is unsupported stretches which stress the ligaments in your knees. ie standing stretches and a lot of assymetric stretches.

I didn't feel any pain in my knees either, it was just after I started doing this exercise they started to hurt more than normaly. I also started doing lightly weighted leg extensions though, to try to strengthen the leg muscles to take strain off the knees.

I've stopped both of these and instead am doing the slow front/side/back kicks, as well as holding leg up as high as possible until fatigue. Far less pain.

Why the heck would you ever wanna kick that high? So some one can throw you on the ground???

I'd kick head height.. =)

Lead leg to the head is pretty quick & effective I believe.

Apart from that, if you can kick head height, you can kick to the ribs with a lot more power & strength, not to mention easier. Jack already mentioned that anyway though.

It takes sacrifice to be the best.

There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy.

I think if you can kick high you could win a fight easier.Kicks are MUCH more deadly than punches. If you kick someone in the head, and connect it well, you have won the fight.

When you put water into a cup,it becomes the cup. When you put water in a T-Pot,it becomes the T-Pot..be water my friend!!
