Dbzhub Posted March 28, 2002 Posted March 28, 2002 have any of you tried it? i'm needing to lose a couple pounds and im dieting but i'd like somthing extra.. so does it work ? Do or do not, there is no try
Bon Posted March 28, 2002 Posted March 28, 2002 Yes, but that's all it is! It's only a good workout, NOT self-defence. Cardio in the morning is the best thing along with your diet though. It takes sacrifice to be the best. There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy.
chh Posted March 28, 2002 Posted March 28, 2002 My mom used to do it. Kind of fun, good workout. I'd suggest renting one of the videos first to see if you stand having Billy on your TV that long every day without gouging your eyes out in irritation. I bought my mom the tapes for xmas the other year, they make you buy them in sets of 3 or more which makes them fairly pricey. Could probably get a better price on ebay, of course.
ad Posted March 28, 2002 Posted March 28, 2002 yes please remember it isnt a for self defense, niether is it a martial art, its similar to shadow boxing and makes you kick air, its quite similar to sport tkd, - no offence implied Brown Sash Hsing I/Lau Gar Kung FuBrown Belt San Shou17 yr oldhttp://www.selfdefencehelp.co.uk
rabid hamster Posted March 29, 2002 Posted March 29, 2002 I tryed it in PE before a few times because they made us. Some people might think it's fun I guess, but I was as bored as heck and tryed to talk to my friends most of the time when the PE teacher wasn't looking. I think the stuff they wear is really ugly too... But of course you don't have wear it (Unless you want to, lol I hope not). But ya, it's a good workout and it's pretty tiring if you do it for a long time. I know this because one of my friends actually did it really hard and the last time she kicked the air and suddenly passed out. Anywho, just my opinion. I think you should rent it or something first to make sure you like it and then buy it. Also it's not like sport TKD. In sport TKD you still sparr, and the techniques you learn are acutally real fighting techniques... It is only with the heart that one can see clearly, for the most essential things are invisible to the eye.
KickChick Posted March 29, 2002 Posted March 29, 2002 Why is everyone comparing "taebo" ,<-- correct spelling to "sport" TKD ... I'm by no means sticking up for sport TKD but huh? .... kicks /puches/aerobics ... plain and simple. Billy has taken his workout to the bag now in newer videos. You all know how I feel about "taebo" ... my classes are very dissimilar .... we use the wavemaster and more kickboxing/boxing moves ..... http://www.karateforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=340&forum=14 and http://www.karateforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=1403&forum=14 .....oh and I am adding some of my drills/routines that I teach on my web page. _________________ KarateForums Sensei 1st dan BlackBelt TKD(ITF) CardioKickboxing/Fitness Inst. AnonymousOne Posted March 29, 2002 Posted March 29, 2002 Tae Bo is a poor attempt to commercial martial arts. The techniques are poor, the instruction is poor and the workouts are too easy. Its a game, not real martial arts 7th Dan ChidokaiA true combat warrior has to be hard as nails in mind, body and soul. Warriors are action takers and not action fakers. If you are cruising, make time for losing
chh Posted March 29, 2002 Posted March 29, 2002 I don't think anybody here thinks it counts as martial arts. Sure it's too easy for YOU, but your average person who hasn't dedicated the past several decades of his life to hardcore MA training might find it quite challenging (for example, my mom!). It's like taking an aerobics class, but is attractive to people because it doesn't seem as fru fru. If your goal is simply to get your heart rate up and sweat a little, then I don't see anything wrong with it.
KickChick Posted March 29, 2002 Posted March 29, 2002 No ... its not a "game" its a workout for the "common man" ... which you are obviously not AO. What we need is to get the populus off their keesters and do some activity .. if it involves some degree of ma (which it does ... maybe not to your definition) then halleleuiah! .... you may think it is a poor attempt but Billy is all the way to the bank ... and yet the dojang doors are opening up to these TaeBo enthusiasts who do want to get serious!
psychospaz Posted March 29, 2002 Posted March 29, 2002 Tae Bo is a GOOD attempt at makeing MONEY. 'nuff said.
