When I began in Kenpo, I was lucky if I could do 3. Unfortunately, I never really worked at it much, but have just recently started doing them nightly. I'm up to 25 now. At my school, people my age (15) get push up awards for 35, 50, and 70 (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced). So I have a long way to go.

Just something I did back in the day...stand on at the bottom of some stairs if you have some, then lean forward and place your hands on the edge of the stairs and do the pushups that way. You will still feel it and it will work you up to regular pushups in no time.

I can do about 30-40, but hopefully that will increase to 100 with enough training.

in my dojo, they want us to do 100 by the time we reach blackbelt. I can do a lot, but I need to train more to get to up there without doing them in sets.

It's all mental.

I used to not be able to do more than like 15. Then I started counting like this:

1-20

Count down from 20 back to 1.

Then back up.

Then back down.

Suddenly, 80 feels like 20. (Ha! Not really. But it is easier.)

In a semi-related "woot for me", I just learned that I can do fingertip clap pushups! Early arthritis, here I come!!

When I first started Tang Soo Do I was lucky if I could pull off 15, but he made us do them EVERY day. I didn't even really think about it or realize it... but after 6 months I was doing 50 and still going. It takes practice and a certain mindset to do it.
