Just wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks for me.Thx,ncole_91
White Warlock
if the sides are hurting, and you don't feel the knees are 'loose,' then it's likely a bit of tendonitis, and you'll need to be a little more patient with them. spend more time warming up and stretching, but don't overstress the knees. you may also want to work on exercises to strengthen your buttocks and thighs. As i indicated in a different thread, a weakening of both directly impacts the exertions you pose on your knees. I gather both may be getting a tad weak, and thus you're 'leading' with your knees, rather than your hips.Oh, and ibuprofen.my thoughts "When you are able to take the keys from my hand, you will be ready to drive." - Shaolin DMV TestIntro

Maddwraph
I'm the same way. Hurts like hell. I'm just trying not to pay attention to it.if its hurting, dont ignore it, thats how it will get worse. do some knee stretches, or stretches that streth parts near the knee, like the thighs. and ice it for like 20 minutes in the night. that may relieve some tension. if your knees are hurting on a regular basis, check a doctor, it could save you money and trouble in the long run. Im brasilian, but live in the united states. Really enjoying martial arts.
White Warlock
As Maddwraph indicated, you should not ignore it. Pain is communication, the means for your body to communicate to you that something isn't entirely right.Nicole, I stated earlier that you could be 'leading' with your knees, rather than your hips. It is also possible you are leading with your hips and then your knees, but doing so with feet firmly planted, thus posing torque on your knee in the process. If you don't see it, it may be a good idea to review your circular-motion kicking techniques with your instructor, to see if he catchs what's going on. A lot of my muscle hurt (sorness) like hell the next day after I work them. I have had my physical therapist look at it, he says it's fine. ncole_91
Well my knees only hurt while they are stretching, so I do not want to be stretching a ligament or something. After stretching or the next day, they are fine. Like orion said, for me too, its not really a pain because I do not push it cuz i dont want to screw up my knees. I asked my physical therapist (seeing him for my back) about this. He said it should be fine. My wife was a dancer, and she said she had that problem too at first until it was use to being stretched.
