Hogosha Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Is there a way to build up my chest muscles using dumbells?Cheers. - Hogosha
Zapatista Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 You can use the dumbells to do a bench press type excersise that would work the chest. Just lie on your back and pretend you're doing bench presses with a dumbell in each hand
Hogosha Posted October 18, 2005 Author Posted October 18, 2005 So pretty much the same as this?http://www.shapefit.com/chest-exercises-dumbbell-bench-press.gif - Hogosha

Check this out toohttp://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.htmJust click on the body part you want to work, and BAM! You have a detailed picture it. My advice, purchase a $50 bench. It will come in handy for doing workouts!Push ups are great too. Try to do them as many as you can, until failure. I do about 40-50 a day, except the day after I work my chest (too sore)Remember when working out, do not sacrifice weight for technique. If it hurts, or you have to swing to get the weight up, lower the weight. Your body will thank you. I don't have to be the best, just better than you!Working towards 11% BF and a Six pack
Hogosha Posted October 18, 2005 Author Posted October 18, 2005 Thanks for the link, I usually do about 25 push ups a day, I could do more but I don't want to push my self. - Hogosha
orion82698 Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Push yourself. Get away from your comfort zone. I have meet people in their 40's and 50's that can do over 300 push ups at one time. Push up if done correct will also benifit not only your chest, but your triceps and shoulders as well. If you want nice biceps "Guns" your triceps have to be on point too. Hogosha Posted October 18, 2005 Author Posted October 18, 2005 Okay, tomorrow I'll do as many as I can. I don't usually like to push my self to much because the pain afterwards is so bad, is it worth it? - Hogosha
orion82698 Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 There is a difference between pain, and burn. The burn is a build up of latic acid. Your arms (shoulders and triceps) should feel tired afterwards. Your chest (upper and inner) should feel some burn too. Once you're done with your pushups, stretch. The muscle are now hot, and need to be stretched. What I do to stretch my chest, is stand under a door way, place both arms on the outside of the door frame, and act like I'm going to fall, but my arms stop me, thus stretching my chest. Now, if you have pain, you need to look a few things.-where is it coming from?-does it happen while you're performing the exercise?-how long does the pain last for?Have someone watch you do the pushups. There are many different ways to do a pushup. The normal, is have your hands spread shoulder width apart. Go down for one second, come up for one second. Keep your back and legs straight. Make sure you're breathing. In when you go down, out when you come up. If it becomes painful, stop. You have to work your way up to many reps. If you think you can't, you won't. Remember, your mind shuts down before your muscle do. Tell yourself you can do 2 more, then 2 more after that. Once you hit muscle failure, hold yourself up at the top, but not all the way (about 90%) You'll find your arms start to shake. Hold this as long as you can. elbows_and_knees Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 excess amounts of pushups will not build strength. It builds endurance. This of course is not a bad thing, but don't get it confused.
Menjo Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Pull ups or chin ups also. "Time is what we want most, but what we use worst"William Penn
