Just a topic to share on how everyone goes through a day in a life of thier martial arts class.

I take Muay Thai after school about 5 times a week an hour and a half each time.

Before I start class, I do my own stretching for about eight minutes then class starts and we jump rope for about 10 minutes. Stretch again maybe about 5 minutes, then are real training starts. The teacher gives us different combinations and start shadow boxing for 10 minutes. After, we use those same combinations on Thai pads with partners. for about 20 minutes. After the Thai pads, comes either lady pads or heavy bag kicking/kneeing punching/elbowing for the rest of the day. Then we follow up with 50 sit ups/pushups after the heavy bagging.

Some days instead of Thai padding we just spar with shin pads then follow up with 100 right kicks, 100 left kicks, 50 left push kicks, 50 right push kicks.

But recently I was only able to go to class two times a week because I was sick.

Aikido have names for techniques like "heaven and earth."which represents the creation of the universe along with a philosophical meaning.


Muay Thai have names for techniques like "closing the lamp", which means "punch him in the eye."

Typical Muay Thai session :)

I train regularly in kyokushin 4 days/week , hour & half --> 2 hours/day .

We start with worm ups 15 minutes , stretching 15 minutes , push ups , sit ups , press ups and then the real training starts the instructor //* That would be me *// gives combinations of techniques to do on air , usually we start with punches and low kicks and we end up with punches & high kicks , then we do the same techniques with a partner with and without pads , sparring , bag work , full contact sparring and/or kata

good streching is a strong side of kyokushin, no wonder you can head hunt that fast.

we strech before class, then we start with arm conditioning by each other arm low/high/low switch hands,

then we condition shins by hitting shin on shin, then kata , or wazas, some times we put the gloves on and spar till somebody quit, some times put the judo gi on and wrestle for 5-10 min.

Well I train in Youn Wha Ryu and I train two days a week, for two hours (1 hour classes) and class usually goes like this:

Class always begins and ends with meditation

1. stretching (including breathing, power building excercise, sit ups and push ups)

2. kicks

3. basic technique

4. forms

then if we have time we do One Step fighting/Three step fighting, fighting techniques, and self defense

i was blessed with a great work ethic and am able to do the running, forms and meditation myself. each class is very intence and involves pushups/situps and the boxing and sometimes jiujitsu have bagwork, skiping and sparring

the judo is pretty laid back but the technique of the school is second to none. i consider the meditation the most important part of my training.

here's an example of a circuit I have my guys run once a week:

warmup:

footwork and leg check drills - 5 mins

jumping rope 4 mins x 2 rounds

pushups - 30

squats - 50

circuit:

shadow boxing

Bodyweight exercises (varies each session)

knees

speed bag or double end bag

abs

kicks only on heavybag 1

punches only on heavybag2

each station is performed for a 2 min round with one min rest in between. we run the circuit twice. If time permits, we do pad drills afterward.

Our typical Kenpo class is as follows:

1) Bow, recite philosophy

2) Meditation

3) Stretching, Push-ups, Crunches, etc.

4) Basic Combinations (Back Knuckle Reverse Punch, or strings of kicks). Sometimes we'll run too.

5) Review self-defense techniques, discuss and practice at least one basic principle.

6) New Self-Defense Techniques (for your belt rank).

7) Kata

8 ) Either kicks or work with pressure points or joint locks.

9) Sometimes we'll finish with a whole lot of shifting punches.

10) Bow out, recite Black Belt Oath.

Now, there are always some random things stuck in there. Like Saturday morning classes, if the previous day was a Belt Promotion ceremony, we'll do the Gauntlet, in which everyone forms two lines. One by one, you go to the front and turn around while the instructor picks random people to attack you (you don't know who or how they'll attack) and then you walk down the line.

I'll just describe a typical friday's class, which are my favorite classes.

1) Warm up and stretch on your own before class

2) Focus mitt drills: 2-min drills, usually 5-6 in a row of different combinations.

3) blitz drill: 6min of punching going from one combo to the next non stop

4) Thai pads: punch and kick combos sometimes with elbows too, usually done in sets of 30, push ups inbetween sets. Oh, knees too.

5) switch and hold for your partner as they do #2-4

6) lock flows, grappling

7) kali stick work, maybe some knife defence

8 ) bow out and stretch before going home

Class lasts about 1 hour and sometimes we dont get to #8 as we'll do extra sets of some of the drills. I usally leave this class exteremly worn out but vey happy :)

unfortunately my thaiboxing instructor was deployed at a diffrent base so i now just do boxing for strikeing but i still train with my former thaiboxing partners on sundays, if you replace jiujitsu with MT you get my former training schedule, i was really disapointed when MT was no longer available but then jiujitsu began to be offered during the time i took MT so i guess im lucky.
