trillium Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 I was always told that I didn't kiai loud enough- especially the first few years of my training. I recently went back after a few years absence from "class" training (trained on my own during that time) and boy did it feel good when I kiai'd for the first time back....
italian_guy Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 During kata execution I kiai quite loudly because is part of execution itself, during sparring I do not kiai at JKD I just exale with a soft huh sound while at karate sometimes I do kiai... depends if it comes out naturally or not.
shogeri Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 I make a small exhale when striking, but not the loud KiYa...Similar to what other's have said they do. DN Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 or some realy screem the word "kiai", That’s like dropping a brick on your foot an yelling 'SHOUT'there are reasons to control your breathing when doing a particular action but they don't require you to be super loud.
