My tournament dream....

Featured Replies

I like tournaments, I'm not sure why, I feel that training in the MA's should be about self improvement & defense first, all others a distant second, but I like competition. But what I really want to see is an organized tournament circut that exists nationaly, holding tournaments on a regional level every few months and sending the winners up to championships. I'd love to see it in a way that the travel exoenses are factored in and paid for in advance, so that all the competitors have to worry about is fighting.

Is there anything out there like this, something open to multiple styles?

Oh yeah, full contact would be nice, I'm pretty much against point fighting in general.

You can become a great fighter without ever becoming a martial artist, but no sir, you can not become a great martial artist with out becoming a great fighter. To fight is most certainly not the aim of any true martial art, but they are fighting arts all the same. As martial artists, we must stand ready to fight, even if hoping that such conflict never comes.

I couldn't agree with you more. I would be willing to go.

I don't have to be the best, just better than you!

Working towards 11% BF and a Six pack

I have been looking around, and the only thing I can find that looks to be important tourney in the MA world is the US Open in Orlando, FL. It sucks cause of my Job, I cannot go that time of the year. Maybe.... I don't know. I'm no where near ready for that type of comp though.

Look into the USANKF.ORG

Warning it is point sparring but at a much more organized level

You do not need to be flexible to do a Jodan (head kick), if your opponent is already on the ground.

If you look hard enough, Im sure you'd be able to find a full contact Jiu Jitsu tournament somewhere around you. These are very popular from what I understand in Europe.

Basically, you wear the kimono and such, but strikes are allowed standing ( I dont know about the ground).

I think it looks pretty cool because you get to see some nice strikes trading back and forth, but you also get to see some nasty Judo throws which are seldom seen in MMA matches.

ISKA is almost like this, exept competitors pay their own way.

They have full-contact, but it is with gloves.

I like tournaments too if they are well organized. I've been competing since 1985. It's a social thing for me too. As for expenses, one would have to get sponsored in a team like Paul Mitchell or have a good job.

I love tournaments too :karate: The most exciting thing is audience applauses when you win... And adrenaline flow when you enter the ring...

I'm practising shidokan... that's a full contact style and I can't even imagine a fight for points... that wouldn't be interesting, would it ? Only when you beat your opponent you can say that you're a winner... (or he beats you :) )

You can prevent your opponent from defeating you through defense, but you cannot defeat him without taking the offensive.
