SenseiMike Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I like tournaments, I'm not sure why, I feel that training in the MA's should be about self improvement & defense first, all others a distant second, but I like competition. But what I really want to see is an organized tournament circut that exists nationaly, holding tournaments on a regional level every few months and sending the winners up to championships. I'd love to see it in a way that the travel exoenses are factored in and paid for in advance, so that all the competitors have to worry about is fighting. Is there anything out there like this, something open to multiple styles?Oh yeah, full contact would be nice, I'm pretty much against point fighting in general. You can become a great fighter without ever becoming a martial artist, but no sir, you can not become a great martial artist with out becoming a great fighter. To fight is most certainly not the aim of any true martial art, but they are fighting arts all the same. As martial artists, we must stand ready to fight, even if hoping that such conflict never comes.-My response to a fellow instructor, in a friendly debate
orion82698 Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I couldn't agree with you more. I would be willing to go. I don't have to be the best, just better than you!Working towards 11% BF and a Six pack
orion82698 Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I have been looking around, and the only thing I can find that looks to be important tourney in the MA world is the US Open in Orlando, FL. It sucks cause of my Job, I cannot go that time of the year. Maybe.... I don't know. I'm no where near ready for that type of comp though. I don't have to be the best, just better than you!Working towards 11% BF and a Six pack
JAKEHE3078 Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 Look into the USANKF.ORGWarning it is point sparring but at a much more organized level You do not need to be flexible to do a Jodan (head kick), if your opponent is already on the ground.
SubGrappler Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 If you look hard enough, Im sure you'd be able to find a full contact Jiu Jitsu tournament somewhere around you. These are very popular from what I understand in Europe.Basically, you wear the kimono and such, but strikes are allowed standing ( I dont know about the ground).I think it looks pretty cool because you get to see some nice strikes trading back and forth, but you also get to see some nasty Judo throws which are seldom seen in MMA matches.
yamesu Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 ISKA is almost like this, exept competitors pay their own way. They have full-contact, but it is with gloves.Osu. "We did not inherit this earth from our parents. We are borrowing it from our children."
cleung Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 I like tournaments too if they are well organized. I've been competing since 1985. It's a social thing for me too. As for expenses, one would have to get sponsored in a team like Paul Mitchell or have a good job. ClintFree Spirit Martial Arts Activewearhttp://www.FreeSpiritActivewear.com
MasterH Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 I don't compete anymore, but I love judging and watching. Adam (Fluffy) Huntleyhttps://www.rleeermey.comhttps://www.martialartsindustry.net
NoFear1725681471 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I love tournaments too The most exciting thing is audience applauses when you win... And adrenaline flow when you enter the ring... I'm practising shidokan... that's a full contact style and I can't even imagine a fight for points... that wouldn't be interesting, would it ? Only when you beat your opponent you can say that you're a winner... (or he beats you ) "Tomorrow's battle is won during today's practice"- Samurai maxim"If you know the art of breathing you have the strength, wisdom and courage of ten tigers"- Chinese adageYou can prevent your opponent from defeating you through defense, but you cannot defeat him without taking the offensive.
