karatekid1975
Hiya all.I found out I got this nervous thing about tests and demos/tournies LOL. I saw a thread on here somewhere about it, but I can't find it (help me here).Anyways, I did a demo for a friend who is opening a school. I didn't think I would even think twice or get nervous, but I did right before I did my form (one of two). The breaks were cool, because I was actually showing the kids how to hold, so I didn't think about it. But I stopped on my bo form. I was always told (again tonight by her) to never stop a form even if I screw up. This is a "habbit" I have. It's not good. But in class, I'm fine with this stuff.Any advice to get through this? Zaine
Just before a kata, take deep breaths and think of something else, personally i like to think that im fighting a group of people. Well, anyway, just relax, its not the end of the world if you screw up, take deep breaths, and go through it. ninjanurse
Being nervous is a good thing-it's part of our internal system of checks and balances....the challenge is learning to overcome and perform. Confidence and humility play and important part in this process. Just thinking you are good is not the same as confidence as ego can sometimes overshadow areas you need to focus on for improvement. You have to train with earnestness and earn trust in yourself. It is truly a mental game at some point in your training to overcome the I and not worry about what other people think. There is also a time to be hard on yourself and a time to just go for it! Train for yourself-not for a belt color or a trophy, test for yourself-set your standards higher that all the rest, help as many other people as possible get what they want-teach and grow. Lastly, keep watering that bamboo!!!! Ben Martin
i get soooooooo nervous before my tourneys and my grading to the point it actually affects my performance. even in class when my sensei asks us what we think we need to improve on and i say he always gets me infront of the class to do the technique and they give me a score out of ten and its always between 8-10. my sensei says that i am good but i just dont have any self beliefe/ confidence, and he is right. ive been thinking about being hypnotised to help with the nerves but i would rather just be able to get over it.
