f4cepl4nt
Ok, heres the story. Back in september 2004, I started taking Goju-Ryu karate. I loved every second of it, and I thought WOW this is definitely for me. But then in October, I made a bad move. I started stretching with my butt up against the wall and letting gravity do the work for me on my legs while i watch tv. Problem is, I didnt warm up and I didn't have proper form (eg my feet werent pointing upwards etc). Now I have a terrible groin injury thats been haunting me since then. It's pretty painful to do a roundhouse kick on my left side, although on my right side its fairly fine.Ok, so what I'm wondering is how do you recover from that? I took a break in july for a month, and still no pain relief from that. I can definitely feel the stretch in that area when I go into a shiko dachi, and so every night for a while I've been doing the stretch where you go into that stance and press lightly on your knees with you elbows until you feel a stretch. No dice so far. Do compressions shorts work well in martial arts? How about the stretching, should I continue doing it? I asked the doctor and he just said light stretching should do the trick but I haven't seen any improvement yet. Thanks a lot guys,Trevor
Enviroman
DId you go to your doctor/physical therapist? They would be more qualified to answer such a recovery question...
f4cepl4nt
yeah i did, but the doc said that just some light stretching should do the trick....and it's sort of odd because it's been bothering me since september....ugh. I sure hope i haven't ruined myself for life.that would suck big time.
Jay
injuries always heal with time light exercise does help try some running and a bit of stretching the best thing i have found is that when you injure yourself just get on with is and forget about it it will heal over time i know it can be difficult to forget but just keep going also do the stretch where you go into kiba dachi (horse riding stace) make sure both you knees are equally bet and push out on them with your elbows and look at the ceeling . The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.

Probably one of the worst injuries you can have as they take SO LONG to heal and hurt so much. Now don't get me wrong, there are many much more serious injuires, but as far as pain and the amount of time to heal Groin injuries are probably the worst. All you can do is try to limit the amount of time you spend on your legs and take it easy. The more you try to push yourself the longer it will take to heal. And if it's a serious injury it will take forever. BTW, I'd suggest getting a second opinion. It seems like your current Dr. isn't give you much help.
