I say no stretching- just let it relax. If it's getting worse, see a Doc asap. Sometimes a benchpress is okay with a hurt back, but most people still tend to tense it when they're pushing themselves, and in your case I'd recommend against it. Your back is pretty much involved in everything- maybe you can get away with doing arms without your back being involved.

Aye, i would recommend looking at your stress level. This and weight problems are, in most every cases, the underlying cause of vulnerability.

I.e., learn to relax and cut down on those extra Twinkies. :P

^ ha we dont get twinkies over here. it was just me carrying a really big and heavy bag on one shoulder that did it i also had a bruse on my shoulder/chest from the bag strap. yes stupid i know but my arms were tired from carying it so i put it on my back.

Dude,

I agree with the above posters.

Dont do any stretching untill you feel your back has recovered.

See a Phisio/Doc about it .

Your spine is quite integral to the movement of your body.

And slipping a disk or similar will not be a joyous occasion.

Best O Luck.

Am recovering from back surgery . Have done tons of research on it as there was not much I could do during my injury .

?#1 How bad is the pain ?

?#2 Where is the pain ?

?#3 How much mobility do you have ?

?#4 Is the pain restricted to your back or does it continue to other extremities ?

When you answer these questions I will still tell you to go see a doctor but all back injuries are not created equal and info is a good thing , so ask anything you wish and I will try to help .

i went 2 the A&E last night and i told the doc that i think i have pulled a muscle on each side of my back and that along the side of my spine it feels tender i moved my hands up my back llightly pushing and it doesn't hurt any more then usual when i do that. so he did that and a few other things and told me that i was right that i have pulled a muscle on each side. he told me not to go back to training for another week at least.

as far as the pain well im in pain right now and most of the day and it hurts alot.

Damn that means im going to miss grading AGAIN due to another injury i haven't graded since last yr april due to injuries :'(

Thanks for all the advice guys:)

Glad you got it checked out.

Aye, backs are already pretty strong and they're always working out. Something you may consider later on, after you've given your back some time to chill, is to do some abdominal workouts. The abdominal muscles and back muscles help to keep you 'aligned.' The problem is that many people become misaligned because their back ends up doing all the work, while their abdominal muscles become lax. This is, especially, the hardship encountered when overweight.

^ yeah thats right. i haven't been training the last few months as much as i was (5 days a week) but when i was i was doing lots of core exercises. my lower back is fine and i think thats due to me squatting twice a week with over 100k. but i was the middle and upper parts of my back that got hurt. what would be go to do to strenghten that?
