Adonis Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Any one train this type of guard on this forum? very difficult if your not very flexible I have noticed. I have decent flexibility to least hold onto "mission control" or "meat hook" postion but transitions to go to "invisible collar, trinagle omoplata and such can be difficult at times because of lack of flexiblity. I see how Eddie Bravo who coined the term pulls it off well because of his flexiblity. Any one else train Rubber guard?
supergalactic Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 I am fortunate to be flexible enough to use it, I think it is very effective. Josh Koscheck the human blanket
Muaythaiboxer Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 my appoligies for my ignorence but what is the rubber gaurd? Fist visible Strike invisible
Adonis Posted August 1, 2005 Author Posted August 1, 2005 Its a type of guard used by eddie bravogo to onthemat.com and check out video's, and then click on submisison wrestling. You will see a clip called 10th Planent Jiu-JItsu that is eddie bravo's school. Eddie bravo coined the term rubber guard Rubber guard is when you have on foot in the hip and the other accross teh opponets shoulder grabbing your ankle palm up. just tigher guard for no gi. and helps take away the striking power or your opponent if you use it for MMA. That type of move I described is called "mission control" but alot of moves make up what is called the rubber guard Deisgned because after practicing it for awhileyoru knee's feel like rubberlol any one try the meat hook postion to set up triangles, supergalatic, you try the invisible collar move yet. I took a a couple of private lessons under Eddie Bravo's brown belt Jason Chambers 7 or 8 months back in Arizona. He showed me some neat moves. I likethe electric chair from half guard if the post a leg up you can pull that leg lock move on them. YOu know that one?

I am leaning towards a butterfly guard game. Josh Koscheck the human blanket
Adonis Posted August 1, 2005 Author Posted August 1, 2005 Yeah I understand. go to http://www.thetwister.tv/Techniques.htm that will show you the techniques for the invisible collar, the electric chair, and the meat hook. Yeah I play more of a half guard, to high closed guard, or triangle lock bottom game. I some times play spider guard or other open guards, I am still not incorportated rubber guard or mission control into my game yet either.
supergalactic Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Funny thing is I had his site on my favorites but just didn't remember the names you were refering to. Josh Koscheck the human blanket
supergalactic Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 What I do use a lot, but I am not sure if it is one of Bravo's rubber guard moves. I will have a closed guard then take either my right or left leg and put it high up on their shoulder even neck then fake an omopalata but instead but my foot/shin under their neck then grab the back of their head and finish the choke. Adonis Posted August 2, 2005 Author Posted August 2, 2005 gogoplata is what its called. He sets it up off of "mission control" where you have one foot in the hip and one fot around the head or neck like you were saying and then grabbing the foot with his arm. He then then changes gribs so he is grabbing front ways back of the hand facking you. on the ohter side of his head. basically same side your leg is going over the head is the side he grabs closest to thatleg with the forarm in the side of the neck. Pushes the head away and goes for omoplata if the guy pushes back his weight into him he go with the shin under the throat. one form arm around his neck grabbing the fooot the other hand palm on the heal pushing with the palm on the heal to drive the shin into there neck. While the other hand on gthe back of the neck grabbing the foot keeps them from escapping. I got that move from Eddie's brown belt I took a private with in arizona back in January. I Hope what I wrote made since. I am not the best grammer, spelling, punchation person out there. Pretty poor at that stuff.
BJJ is 1 Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 I was wrestleing with a blubelt after class tonight and i knew i would get dominated so i just started trying crazy stuff that i usualy dont do like i tried to set up a triangle then went to rubber guard which was stupid because i never realy tried it before and then he got side control right before the match ended then i went against another blue belt this time he stood up in my guard so i figured what the hell, i droped down an played x guard and i swept him after the match we were talking and he said i had a raly good x guard so now im going to use it more often.A little of subject i know but i beat a blue belt!
