YODA Posted March 7, 2002 Posted March 7, 2002 Anyone used Tabata interval training? It's based on doing 8 lots of 20 seconds work with 10 seconds rest between - here's a link... http://www.cbass.com/interval.htm YODA2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.ukQualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.ukQualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology)
Jack Posted March 7, 2002 Posted March 7, 2002 Very interesting Yoda. If you want I could try this out and let you know the results in a few months? JackCurrently 'off' from formal MA trainingKarateForums.com

Blade13 Posted March 7, 2002 Posted March 7, 2002 We've done this in my weightlifting class as punishment! I wish we did it every day though. Ive asked the coach but he says that no one else wants to. Its really fun to me!
Jack Posted March 8, 2002 Posted March 8, 2002 Lol Blade, I get that all the time. I always seem to first to drop to the floor when the Instructor says "20 pushups" JackCurrently 'off' from formal MA trainingKarateForums.com
SaiFightsMS Posted March 8, 2002 Posted March 8, 2002 I am familiar with the technique and have used it in the past. For me I find that I need a much longer recovery time when I use training methods of that nature. It is a very effective method.
YODA Posted March 9, 2002 Author Posted March 9, 2002 Tried it with free weight squats today - using 90kg. I managed 8, 8, 6, 5, 5, 4,4, 4 reps for the 8 sets. Afterwards I felt like throwing up. The rest of my leg workout was simply out of the question! I have a 60min hill run in the morning- doh!!!! Joecooke007 Posted March 10, 2002 Posted March 10, 2002 At my football camp we do something similar called the pyramid. You sprint for 5 rest for 7 sprint for 10 rest for 12 sprint for 20 rest for 22 sprint for 30 rest for 30 sprint for a full minute rest for 45 My coach has this odd system worked out where you never quite get enough restand we are doing this for thirty minutes. You're dead after this. It's hard!!! Boards don't hit back. -Bruce Lee
Jack Posted March 18, 2002 Posted March 18, 2002 Yoda, what sort of use would Tabata-sprinting Intervals have when it comes to taking a 45 minute long, intensive grading? Would Tabata training be an effective method for this? JackCurrently 'off' from formal MA trainingKarateForums.com
YODA Posted March 18, 2002 Author Posted March 18, 2002 From a conditioning standpoint I'd say yes - if your grading requires a high degree of short intense activity. Remember though that your aerobic base is the foundation - so don't neglect regular 60-80% HrMax CV work.
