Enviroman Posted July 19, 2005 Author Posted July 19, 2005 Guys,I ended up meeting with him. He was very, very into money. He wanted to know when I'd be able to pay the full 99/month and that the 50/month was only to "help me out for a little while." I asked about his credentials and he sort of skirted the question. This one is out for me.Thanks tho.
Adonis Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 go on your instincits if you don't feel comfortable training at some at place. Then don't! Look else where.
Kajukenbopr Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 lol i knew anyone that wanted $50/month teaching from a blue belt couldnt be that good.... <> Be humble, train hard, fight dirty
rb Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 actually he wanted 99 bucks a month. That's even on the steep side for training with a brown belt.
Adonis Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 Yep. when some one avoids questions of who there instructors were fishy as well. There some very technical blue belts out there who just haven't been promoted yet but I doubt he is one of them.
scottsplain Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 im considering starting to train for BJJ after my wrestling season is over, approxamtly how long does it take to advance and what exactly does it take? Class of 08' EBAL Wrestling Champs 3 years Runin' FOOTHILL
TJS Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 im considering starting to train for BJJ after my wrestling season is over, approxamtly how long does it take to advance and what exactly does it take?usually 1-2 years before you get a blue belt(first belt) if you train regularly. About 10 years of average to get a black belt if you stick to it.What does it take? Mosly just getting to class..learning techniques, drilling them, and practicing them in sparring/rolling as much as possible.
Steve_K Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 If you can, get on the internet or do something to find out if there is a free club that gets together and trains Jiu Jitsu that is made up of currently practicing students. I don't know how common they are, but I had the good fortune to find one only 20 min from me (I live in Cincinnati OH). I really like training there, because there are people from Tae Kwon Do and other martial arts there as well, and they aren't all hung up on belts either. I asked if they minded if I wore my black belt (in Chung Do Kwan) to practice, not to see how much I could push my weight around, but I do that to guage the attitude there, and they said "no problem, we just wear belts here to keep our gis together".My point is, IF you can find a free club, go there, because chances are, most or everyone there has an open mind and most importantly, they are hungry to learn and become better too, so you will get intense training and instruction there as well. Where sometimes with high ranking instructors who are trying to make money won't be too concerned with high quality training, because they already have a wealth of skill and already have your money and want you to NEED to come back. I by no means claim that it encompasses all or even most high ranking instructors, but that is a flaw I know you can find. That's just my suggestionGood luck
SubGrappler Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 im considering starting to train for BJJ after my wrestling season is over, approxamtly how long does it take to advance and what exactly does it take?TJS did give a good time frame, but you should also note that many things in wrestling transfer over to BJJ very well. Depending on how good a wrestler you were (say collegiate level) you could very well get your blue in a matter of months.
BJJ is 1 Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Comming from other forms of grappling defintly helps in BJJ "Without Jiu Jitsu its like without my two legs."-Rickson Graciehttps://www.myspace.com/cobraguard
