Featured Replies

personally im the same in both i've always been told if your good at patterns you'll be good at sparring to!

so what about you guys?

this is not about what you've won for each

TAE: to jump, kick or smash with foot

KWON: A fist-to punch or distroy with the hand or fist

DO: is an art, way or method

I don't know about anyone else, but at times I feel decent at both, other times I feel insufficient at both.

definately sparring when i was in tkd, probaly because i was more enthusiastic about it then i was forms.

abuot even... sparring starting to get better now as im devotign a bit more time to it.

probably forms,

i compete in both to a decent level but i think i have more of a love for forms so i seem to take more in forms sections!

sticks and stones may break my bones, but i am trained to kill you.

I wouldnt say good patterns practitioners are good at sparring as a rule, just that good students are good at both...... if u see what i mean.

I'm better at forms, in my opinion, probably because I spend a lot more time doing them. I prefer kata to sparring, although I think that sparring teaches more practical lessons than kata.

depends on how you spar though, but generally i agree.

Iam better at patterns since in shotokan ive only now reached the level of full sparing

I was better at forms (kata) earlier on but that was because I was able to practice them more. Since I've been able to spar more, I would say that I'm about equal in ability now.
