Does anyone use knee braces?

I can't stand it any longer. My LCL is flairing up again and is burning and twitching as I write this. I think kicking air is a contributing factor to an old football injury. No, exercises don't help much and I'm not fond of scalpels. It only feels good after a few glasses of cheap scotch. I am going to a knee specialist in a few days for evaluation and ask for a brace. Does anyone use them during MA practice? Is there a perferred type that you know of or any kinds that I should stay away from?

It's happy hour somewhere in the world.

Three ppl in my class have Knee Braces from torn ACL injuries... I think ou have to sit back and see how far you can go. You can't be a superman with those kind of serious injuries.

Actually I have had some mcl problems. Only type of support I have used in class was just a basic neoprene sleeve and then only during flare ups.

But then I wear kneepads. My knees just don't like the hard floor.

I've had a serious knee-injury a few years ago, I still train with a knee brace.

Works fine for me, I really haven't noticed real problems or handicaps during training & sparring. Just make sure it fits exactly, and don't wait to long to buy a new one, because you shouldn't use the same for about 9 months.

good luck with your knee man!

Knees, nightmare!!!

I have a lot of trouble with my knees. Usually problems from doing TKD, kicking fresh air, asymetric stretching and having ligament hyperlaxity syndrome. My knees also bend a little left and right and i get pain right in the joints if i don't keep the surrounding muscle nice and toned.

I've never tried braces but thought about it, they look a little frankenstein to me  plus a little expensive. Let s know how you get on with 'em

Just what I was afraid of. Went to knee specialist, he made it go in directions it shouldn't, and I have to get a MRI scan done next week. This really sucks.

(I've been kicked in the gut, punched in the face, sprained my shoulder, but nothing...and I mean nothing...hurt more than when the doctor shifted my kneecap to the side during his tests. I had tears in my eyes and couldn't talk for a while.)
