hey, i am currently searching for a new martial arts style and would love people's input. i trained in Soo Bahk Do (moo duk kwan) for about 8 or 9 years. im 17, 6'1 192. prob 1 of my greatest strenghts would be kicking/jump kicks. i havent trained seriously in about 4 years, ive been playin sports for HS instead. im looking for a very hard martial art that has a fair amount of competitiveness (is that even a word?) in it. thank u

KLax87, you'll probably get better replies if you can answer the following questions:

What schools are available in your area?

What kind of competition are you interrested in?

Do you prefer punching, kicking, or grappling?

What works works

Try Kickboxing, with your previous experience you will learn fast and you may soon be ready to compete.

I say this realizing that people love to bash it, but this is how I feel, go for Tae Kwon Do. If kicks are your strength and based on your description of your build this style could be a good match. I do advise you shop around and make sure the school you choose is compatible w/ you, regardless of style.

Getting a blackbelt just says you have learned the basics and are ready to actually study the form as an art.

Moo duk kwan will readily lend itself to TKD and some styles of karate, so you would pick it back up faster than if you did a kung fu/wushu or capoeira type style.

What kind of competition do you want to do? Open forms, breaking, point sparring, full contact kumite, NHB? This will dictate more of your options.

If you are thinking olympics, then you will most likely want WTF style TKD, that is the Olympic "path". ATA TKD, while closed to non ATA members, is another excellent point sparring style with a lot of fairly large competitions. It all depends on what you want to compete at.

Muay Thai, Kyokushin Karate, Enshin Karate are three style that come to mind, given your priorities. You won't be jumping all the time, but once in a while you can catch your opponent with a jump. spinning hook-kick.

im looking for a very hard martial

Kyokushin. It's a very hard martial art. You'll learn self-defense, kata and do kumite and be able to participate in tournaments.
