My first exposure to martial arts came at a young age because my mom bought me "Enter The Dragon" after that I was obsessed with martial arts so when I was about 6 years old my mom signed me up for Karate lesssons I did that for about a year untill I moved to Tennessee I was upset untill I foun out that my elementry school offered TKD lessons I did that untill fourrth grade when I moved back to Indiana. After that I did not do martial arts for a while but I kept reading books like "The Gracie Way" and "The Tao of Jeet Kune Do" and I eventualy found the school I am at now.

I would love to hear other peoples experience in martial arts

I couldn't find a current thread about this subject so we're good!

I got started when I was 15 at a community center. Took Judo with some friends for a few months until the instructor moved  . The only other thing available was Tang Soo Do.....my friends hated it, I was hooked!

No choice. I was born into it. I didn't even realize that everyone didn't do it until my first fight in the second grade. I thought it was as normal as apple pie.

I got started when I watched Bruce Lee for the first time. I couldn't believe a person could move like that...that started it all for me. Then, when I was in the 4th and 5th grades, we had a friend of my brother living with us. His name was Art. He was from thailand and knew some sort of MA, although I didn't know what. One day I watched my brother mouthing off to three big black guys(we lived in a crack neighborhood in Ft.Waltom Beach Fla.) like he always did...big mouth on my brother, only he couldn't back himself up. Then once the punch was thrown at my brother, Art jumped up and took all three guys down with lightning speed. That was some cool stuff...then I was hooked for sure.

I never took anything formal until late in highschool. I started taking freestyle american karate. Then I took TKD, now Chinese Kenpo.

My kids are in it an will remain in it until they reach the age of majority. It is treated as another of their school subjects...so they know no other way.

I started when I was 9 when my brother dragged me into it. He was hooked on Power Rangers and wanted to be like them, so he signed up and my mom signed me up too. I absolutely hated it for a while until I realized I was really good at it and that it was fun. I've been in it since then, but ironically, both of my brothers have quit.
