June1 Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Hey, all! I was just wondering if anyone knows of a way to increase lung capacity. What I'm looking for is a way to build endurance so I don't get so tired in class. Thank you! Kool Kiais: ICE! DIE! KITES! DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHH! Aodhan Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Hey, all! I was just wondering if anyone knows of a way to increase lung capacity. What I'm looking for is a way to build endurance so I don't get so tired in class. Thank you!Lung capacity and endurance are two different things. Related somewhat, but still two different things.Endurance and fitness allow you to use the oxygen more efficiently. You can do more with the same amount of oxygen. Lung capacity just means you have more air, but if you still use it inefficiently, more won't help.As far as increasing lung capacity, that would consist of lots of deep breathing exercise, exercises designed to loosen/expand the rib cage, etc. Do a google search on tidal lung volume, lung volume and lung capacity exercises and you should find a lot of suggestions.Aodhan There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.-Douglas Everett, American hockey player
dtstiachi Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Try doing some yoga/meditation. It will help you in your breathing. Any good yoga instructor should be able to help you out with this. also remember to breathe deep into the belly and most important: RELAX.P.S. I increased my lung capacity in high school by standing on the bottom of my grandmother's pool. ( I am a tuba player, so I need lots of wind) DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. good luck and STAY SAFE. June1 Posted June 14, 2005 Author Posted June 14, 2005 Ooooh! Sounds interesting! I'll definitely be sure to try the breathing in the morning. I don't have that much access to a pool. I always did love holding my breath underwater, though! Thank you for your replies, all! Kool Kiais: ICE! DIE! KITES! DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHH! RaidenTB Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 I've noticed that running considerably helped my lungs to expand. Imagination is more important than knowledge.
cheeks Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 I've noticed that running considerably helped my lungs to expand.it is the same as any exercise, the more you use it, the better it gets.hence when you go running your heart and lungs get better and more efficient at taking in oxygen and putting it into the blood stream If you have just read the above message and agree with it then you may worship me as the best thing since sliced bread. Of course if you don't agree then hey, i'm a crazed lunatic and you should ignore my insane ramblings.
