BJJ is 1 Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 (edited) First of all how can you compare Vitors stand up to Wanderlei? Second the Chute Box Academy is prrobably has the bes all around game around. Pride also has other good middleweights like Igor Vovchanchyn, and Ryan Gracie Edited June 15, 2005 by BJJ is #1 "Without Jiu Jitsu its like without my two legs."-Rickson Graciehttps://www.myspace.com/cobraguard
JoeSchmo Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 Thats a strange rule that they have in pride. Kicking a downed opponent is ok but no elbow's, what is that?.I think they allow the kicking downed opponents because it adds a lot to the excitement and realism of their fights, as for the elbows, I believe I read somewhere that elbows tend to open up cuts and since Pride emphasizes excitement, nobody ever wants to see a fight stopped because of a cut, but thats just my opinion. I also did see the Karo / Serra fight and it was indeed pretty good.
BJJ is 1 Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 I liked the Karo/Diaz fight better just because of the exciteing ground game "Without Jiu Jitsu its like without my two legs."-Rickson Graciehttps://www.myspace.com/cobraguard
goshinman Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 I like vitor but I don't think he can beat Wandy now. Tapped out, knocked out, or choked out...Take your pick.http://jujitsu4u.com/http://www.combatwrestling.com/http://gokor.com/
goshinman Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 As for Karo I think he CAN beat Hughes. Hughes' game is not as good as it was after getting beaten by BJ Penn and I think he is vulnerable to a person who has a better ground game then he does. Tapped out, knocked out, or choked out...Take your pick.http://jujitsu4u.com/http://www.combatwrestling.com/http://gokor.com/
NotQuiteDead Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Oh and keep in mind that this is a match of judo as a martial art v bjj as a martial art and not a sport grappling match. If it were a sport grappling match there is no doubt in my mind that Matt Serra would have dominated Karo.Karo doesn't just use judo. Yes he uses a lot of judo in his fights which is nice to see, but it wasn't "judo vs bjj".
TJS Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 As for Karo I think he CAN beat Hughes. Hughes' game is not as good as it was after getting beaten by BJ Penn and I think he is vulnerable to a person who has a better ground game then he does. You think he has lost skill since then or what? anyone is vulnerable on the ground against someone with a better ground game...just like you are vulnurable standing against someone with better strikes. If anything Matt has improved his ground game...he has won his last two fights by submission on opponets that had never been submitted before.

Karo has a better ground game then those two guys. And from what I hear Karo is undergoing a wicked strength and conditioning program that will have him using hardcore weight training for the first time. He also is working extra hard fighting from his guard and on his throws and falling drills. He's been starting from his back and working on sweeps and escapes harder then ever. Normally I would go with Matt Hughes but knowing what I know, I'm going with Karo by ankle lock. Tapped out, knocked out, or choked out...Take your pick.http://jujitsu4u.com/http://www.combatwrestling.com/http://gokor.com/
SubGrappler Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Nick Diaz is a brown belt- I saw him at this year's Pan Am games. As far as Wanderlei destroying Tito, I'd certainly root for Wandy, but hes never shown to have very good takedown defense. I think it would show Silva dominating the standup, only to have Tito take him down and be able to do nothing on the ground.Could you imagine Silva fighting under UFC rules? Hes the kinda person we need (him, a Cro Cop, or a Fedor) to popularize MMA in the US. The only thing I see being an obstacle is the rule against kicking a downed opponent- Silva as we know it would not exist (and neither would those hilarious highlight videos). As Randy said it "Wanderlei is someone who would love nothing better than to stomp a hole in your head."
TJS Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 Hughes submitted St. Pierre, who has OK jiu jitsu...Karo has a better ground game then those two guysSt pierre Dominated Karo with his "OK" jiu jitsu skills. st pierres Wrestling an jiu jitsu is top notch and he did extremly well against hughes and actually took him down. He made a mistake and got caught, it happens. As far as Trigg submitting hughes..let me kick hughes in the nuts and I bet i can come close to catchign him in somethign too
