karate kid 1 Posted June 10, 2005 Author Posted June 10, 2005 i wish it corresponded to a blue belt in my dojo because i find this kata difficult FEAR is only a four letter wordRORY
Eruonen Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 I am looking at the diagram and it is a more complicated route with several different actions....this one will take learning in pieces...maybe 1/4 at a time. It will certainly test your back stance.
karate kid 1 Posted June 10, 2005 Author Posted June 10, 2005 to right i find the first part easy since i have now mastered the two backfists FEAR is only a four letter wordRORY
papaschtroumpf Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 There are two parts I find particularly difficult to do well in this kata:- the transition from move 7 (the combined side snap kick and back fist strike) to move 8 (knife hand block). It's really easy to look like you're "falling" from one position into the other, even if you're careful to bring the kicking leg back to your center and pivot before you step back into the knife hand block.- the two soto uchi uke or "reverse inside blocks" (moves 16 and 19 by my count, your count may vary): I find it tricky to generate power for the block by twisting the hip with the "wrong" leg forward.I really like this kata though. Not sure why.
Highler Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 in our dojo it goes white orange red yellow green purple purple 1 white brown one white blackInteresting - I've never seen red placed in such a junior position before. More often it precedes brown, which was the case in my old ISKF Shotokan dojo, as well as in my current JKR Shindo Jinen-Ryu dojo. (My Shito-Ryu dojo was old school: Just white, yellow, green, brown, and black, with tests once a year...) In our school red is the first belt (9th kyu) then yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, brown 1, 2 & 3, black 'The cat taught the tiger everything he knows. One day the tiger turned on the cat and the cat ran up a tree. That was the one thing the cat never taught the tiger.'
