Bretty101 Posted February 27, 2002 Posted February 27, 2002 Hi all, (wasn't sure where to post this but i'm sure it will be moved accordingly) In the film Dragon: the Bruce Lee story. Just before Bruce Lee was about to fight on of the guys he does this thing where he cracks all his joints. (i know the whole film was a massive dramatisation with lots of made up bits but..) 1) did all of Bruces joints really crack? 2)what caused that, it can't be good for you? 3)is it a sign your wearing your joints out? PS i suffer from ligament hyperlaxity syndrom which means my whole body dislocates and clicks. just interested. Have seen a physio and they were no help. YODA Posted February 27, 2002 Posted February 27, 2002 Hey Bretty It was a film ya know! It's not real Popping joints is the sound of pressure equalisation within your synovial joints. Not a problem unless you habitually do it - then you can cause wear & tear not by the cracking but by the manipulation that it involves - usually at a detrimental angle to the joint in question. If it happens naturally then fine, but don't do it on purpose - especially as a regular thing. _________________ YODA 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima Instructor : JKD Concepts http://www.jkdc.co.uk / http://www.docepares.co.uk [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-02-27 11:26 ] YODA2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.ukQualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.ukQualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology)
SuperMinh Posted February 28, 2002 Posted February 28, 2002 I know people who can make almost all of their joints crack... They don't seem to really suffer of that. [ This Message was edited by: SuperMinh on 2002-02-28 09:41 ]
Blade13 Posted March 7, 2002 Posted March 7, 2002 I crack my joints all the time (It sounds like someone is doing riverdance on bubble wrap, haha) and I havent had any problems. They might show up later though. Im tryin to quit because I only do it out of habit.
YODA Posted March 7, 2002 Posted March 7, 2002 .....Yes. You should quit ANYTHING that you only do out of habit YODA2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.ukQualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.ukQualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology)
psychospaz Posted March 7, 2002 Posted March 7, 2002 im nice to people out of habit. maybe i should go crazy on the occasional bystander just to mix thing up
YODA Posted March 7, 2002 Posted March 7, 2002 LOL! Psycospaz - surely you're nice to people because it's the right thing to do? Not just a habit? One definition of a neurosis is doing something habitually without thought for it's justification YODA2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.ukQualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.ukQualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology)
KickChick Posted March 8, 2002 Posted March 8, 2002 Maybe either Yoda or Bretty can help me with this one... I think maybe I might have this "ligament hyperlaxity" in my pelvic/hip joint. I noticed an increase in the "popping" in the last 2 years or so. No pain but it is annoying to hear. When I stand and twist my right leg to the out side you can hear the grinding sound of bone (hard to explain) During any physical activity that involves hip or leg rotation (especially hook kicks and other physical activity ) the sound is apparent and starting to get louder. I have noticed that I can actually pop my hip back over my pelvic bone in order to do a front split (something I've been working on recently) so I know this isn't causing it. I've been taking a glucosamine supplement but I don't see any improvement so I stopped taking it. Should I have it checked out? No pain associated with the movement.
YODA Posted March 8, 2002 Posted March 8, 2002 Yo KC How long did you take the glucosamine for & in what dosage? MuayTB1 Posted March 8, 2002 Posted March 8, 2002 I think its fine , my knees makes poping sounds somtimes for a while and nows its gone. I had read that there is not harm done. but poping your joints for fun is not adviced. long term can "burn" you joints. the poping sounds is made form escaping gas coming between your joints which is to help the two bones to not rub against each other. you need that gas.
