It looks like I have got some problems with the back after I broke a nasty fall. I fell on a side and for some time I got some back problems ... well pains: I feel my ribs hurting, and even the sternum. I have got a radiology check and they say I have Scoliosis on my lombar part of the spine ... that's a bit contradicting wih the pains I have on the toracic side. My spine is OK from my POV, the ribs are hurting.

Could it be the pain is spreading?

I will be able to give some more details the day after tomorrow since I'll see my doctor again. My sister in law (who's a friend of his and have him the "films") told me his reaction was something like "we need to meet soon". That doesn't sound to good to me.

They are saying it's possible that my training in Karate would become history, that's a serious depressing news. I hope I'll be able to train again someday ... Right now I'm a bit sad :)

I hope I haven't bored you too much .. needed to share the pain with some friends ;)

Sorry to hear about this . I had a severe back injury many years ago and after I returned to training I had similar back pain for quite some time. It has eased up for the most part but occasionally flares up due to arthritis. If physical therapy is offered consider it as they can often come up with ways to help you compensate through specific exercises.

Don't ever give up hope! There is always away to train (even if it is not the same way you're used to) and a way to be involved. Keep us posted !

Definitely keep us posted. That isn't the best news in the world, but keep your chiun up. You can still train and still keep active, just not as intensely as you once did.

I have Scheuermann's disease in my back and I have had that since I was 13 years old.

I find the training helps my back but at times it plays up badly, so I wrap a back-strap on, grit my teeth, ignore the pain and train anyway.

Often the pain in my back is far worse than my training but I battle on regardless.

ramymensa, I hope, and pray, that all goes well with you. With any luck, your activity in MA has made your body physically stronger and better able to cope with any problems. Keep a positive attitude.

Thank you for the good words :)

I'll be able to tell you more about it after tomorrow's meeting with the medic. It's indeed an awful moment, a day from the highlight of my life: on wednesday evening I made a dream come true .. got myself a Fujutsu Siemens Amilo notebook. I was and still am extatic since it was one of my lifetime dreams. After a day I found out about the possible future as "sedentary" person away from something I just love, Karate ... My BF was even joking: "I cannot believe this .. you are sitting at your laptop crying" :D

Well .. hope I'll have better news these days .. Thank you all for being at my side ;)

Sorry to hear your sad news Ramy.

try to "keep your chin up" - there may still be a way for you to keep involved in karate, even if it is not as often or as intensive as you do presently.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Good luck! :)

Just tell the doctor flat out that if he simply says to stop training, that he is doing nothing but forcing you to ignore at least some of his advice. Thus, he would be better advised to be more constructive in his recommendations and either help you work through it or find someone else who can.

That said, you might end up having to train in a different way or art. In mine, good spinal movement is essential for the large twisting movements, but a number of CMA are big on keeping the shoulders and hips as one unit. I've had people come in with back problems and leave almost immediately upon seeing the basics.

Some people, upon injuries making throws dangerous for them, go into striking arts; knee injuries sometime kickers into hand stylists, and so on.

Latest news:

I have been to the doctor: I have Lombar Functional Scoliosis and an Kobb angle of 10-15. Not that tough ...

I'll go to a Kinetotherapeut 2 times a week for some months. The bad news is I won't go to Karate for some month (right now I don't want to push my luck too far :)). The good news is we'll do abs and back strenghtening exercises so I'll keep my nice muscles :)

I do intend on getting back to Karate. BUt only when the Kobb angle will decrease and I'll stop having back pains. I;m glad I'll do a sort of exercise and I'll be ab;e to work my muscles there. When I'll feel recovered I'll get back and train without too much strain on the back.

Thank you all so much for the support :) It's nice to see people all over the world care :karate:
