Motivation prob's, close to state titles :s

Recommended Posts

Ok basically, ive been training really hard, very hard. gym 3 times a week, 5 kyokushin classes with a lot of contact and stamina and a morning run and bag workout and other exercises.

ive been holding this routine down for a while, with the odd morning missed but ive been consistent with everything else. im training towards a full contact state tournament, and ive noticed good results.

however, the last couple of weeks ive struggles, really have, and i fORCED myself to get up and run and so forth.

the past week, ive been really tired and havent been enjoying training. now i understand these are common symptoms of overtraining.

so i pegged it back a bit and rested more. but now, i have no motivation to train at all. mentally i just have really hit a rut. usually ive always been prepared to do my afternoon classes, infact i always have. but lately i just want to chill out.

i wouldnt usually care, i understand you need rest periods. but im concerned because in 2 weeks i fight full contact in a tournament i trained so hard for.

the ground work is there, i wont lose all that in 2 weeks. but, aside from rest, what can i do to help get my motivatino back? and what would you scale back my training program to for the last 2 weeks? even if i could be bothered it wouldnt be wise to continue on my hard program, so what cardio and weights would you do for the nbext 2 weeks to get keep me prepped and as to not lose any condition?

thanks for any help.

You already realize that this is a case of burnout. However, nobody can really force you to get back "into the groove," unless you help yourself.

Do you have some tapes of the previous tournaments? I'd try watching some matches, and evaluating your competition. Since you've been busting your rear trying to get into shape for this tournament, I would guess that there's a good chance that you would be better than many of the others there, who didn't take their training nearly as seriously. Perhaps that could give you some motivation?

Sometimes you just have to take it one day at a time....make yourself go for that run because you now you'll feel better after....but it does sound like you have overtrained a bit. Maybe you should sit yourself down and have a talk with yourself about your goals for this fight and maybe you can come up with a 2 week plan to motivate yourself. I would be tapering my physical activity by now anyway to allow my body to rest and grow and heal.Focus on cardio because that's what goes first when you stop training and give yourself a menal break before the big fight. Good luck!

You need to examine your source of lack of motivation. It could be over training, doubt, fear, lack of confidence in your training etc.

One thing a lot of people don't realize is that you need rest days. Often what a lot of professionals will do is work 6-12 weeks in a row, and then take off an entire week from training. It really does help, and at the same time it's not long enough to hurt what you've put it, in fact it'll make you all the better.

You need to do some research on tapering and peaking. You have basically worked yourself to the point where your body is saying "ENOUGH!". Most people can do absolutely nothing for about 5-7 days, after that you start losing your fitness. I'd take 3 or 4 days completely off. Do nothing. Then go back, and work on touching things up until the tournament. Then next time, work out a training schedule where you hit your heaviest hardest workout a few weeks before the tournament, then a slow tapering off of the intensity until the tourney.

A quick google search brought up this link:

Hope that helps
