aefibird
I wouldn't say that. IME, people who know about my tatts (I don't tend to show them off that much) are interested, especially about my MA tattoos. Seeing my MA tattoos once encouraged an aquaintance to start karate too. kchenault
Maybe in your town or city, but tatts are more main stream these days and I live in Kansas. Your only considered possible trouble if your whole body is covered with them. Ken ChenaultTFT - It does a body good!

DCLXVI
Like everyone says, make sure it's meaningful to you, but also remember, it honestly doesn't matter what other people think or what they think it means. Just make sure YOU KNOW 100% that what it is, is. For example, knew this guy who got a jap tat that he thought said strength. It was infact cat. LOL. How he got those two mixed up, I have no idea, but it's funny. So do your research. I have eight tattoos, the seven codes of bushido on the back of each of my triceps and then DCLXVI on the middle of my back, just below my neck line (I would have gotten it on the back of my neck, but can't get tattoos there in the military unfortunately).Anyways, there you go. Just make sure you know what it is and that you like it. Remember, it's on your body, not the person telling you whether it's cool or not. 2nd Dan - Tang Soo Do"It is easy to kill someone with a slash of a sword. Manabimasho1
I have been saving up a few thousand for a massive tat that is going on my Back. I have a picture it has two dragons on each side facing each other and down the middle has in English words our styles system and at the very bottom two Tigers facing each other as if to attack. I personaly think the Japanese/Chinese symbols are over-raided because everyone sees a symbol and thinks the person is in Martial Arts. If you can read it you would know. I ran into a guy at Kings Island who had a very unique tatto of tiny Chinese letters around both his wrists all the way around. I asked him if he was a Martial Artists he said "No the symbols say Never again Never forgive" He then told me his brother was abused by police and shackled up and beaten to death in which they tried to sue and never won. If you think that makes no sense I also ran into a girl who had a nice Tat in Japanese down her thigh she was a Brown Belt in a neighboring karate dojo and I asked her about it. It was symbolizing her love for her boyfriend by telling a short story of how they meet" She is now broken up with him and I have heard he lie and say it meant Karate or something like that............ I guess I don't see why people tattoo thier style if they are proud of it when others can't understand or read it. And now a days people Tatto they love God in Hebrew and Tatto their childenrens name in Chinese.....don't believe me ask a tattoo shop. kchenault
Those people obviously got what it meant to have tats in the first place. They mean something to them and them only. That's the best reason to get one, and possibly the only reason to get one. Ken ChenaultTFT - It does a body good!
fallen_milkman
Well put. I have a tattoo of a hornet on my left upper arm, and everyone thinks it is rediculous and usually kinda laughs. "Haha! You have a bee?!" is the most common comment. But it definitely means something to me. I have been friends with a guy since we were both just starting Boy Scouts. We met when 13 and I am now 20. That is a long time for a friendship. When he decided to move to Portland, we decided to get matching tattoos. Not completely matching, just one theme: hornets. We both thought back to our first memory as friends, and it was of knocking down a hornet's nest at summer camp. So we each designed our own hornet tattoo and got them. It means a lot to me, and almost nothing to those who see it. Just goes to show you, no matter how rediculous you think someone's tattoo is, it can be very personal for them. 36 styles of danger
