KarateChick06 Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Get karate, TKD, or whatever style you do, written on you in Chinese. (Or Japanese, or Korean, etc.) Don't get it on your arm though! Those are hard to cover up when going for job interviews and stuff. Get it on your back. DORKS HAVE MORE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Savvy?
CQC Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 You should get something on your upper shoulder, so you can view it regularly yourself, and because skin there generally stays the same throughout your life, so it will ideally always look good. As for what you should get..I have no idea. All I suggest is something super unique, and not so much with the Chinese/Japanese symbols, they're kind of over-rated. You should hit up a tattoo shop and see what kind of styles may appeal to you, or tell the artist there what you would like to get, and have them help you design it. goju freek Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 What ive found seems best is words rather than logos. If you put Karate, Goju, etc on it will still mean the same in 50 years. However if you put on the IGK logo or similar the orgainisation may no longer exist, get bad press or you may move.
Venrix Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 My Sensei is actually a Tatooist (among other things). We used 6 Chinese characters to describe my life story. He drew them down my spine (thus completely invisible when clothed). Basically, they are drawn as small as the intricacies of the characters will allow.I agree that 'meaningless' characters are a little old hat. But, having my 'story' on my back means that I can never forget my roots (even if there are times that I would like to).Characters (in sequence):Hu - TigerLong - DragonFeng - FireHuang - Bird (Feng Huang = Phoenix)Wu - StopShu - Violence (Wu Shu = Stop Violence )-V- More than 200 pictures of Kyokushin technique. Kata outlined step by step. https://www.kyokushinbudokai.org (Homepage)Diary of a Full Contact Martial Artist (Diary)

I would absolutely love to have something similar - tattoos with meaning are definately where it's at. "Beware the fury of a patient man."- John Dryden
Dez Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 I got my first tattoo a few months ago and got it on my lower right ankle. It is a good place because it can be easily hidden. Not to mention that it didn't hurt. It is a left open hand over a closed right fist which means "knowledge over power". I would say get something that represents what you believe in with your art. I have studied for 12 years (I am only 21) and hold a second degree black belt, mine represents what I believe in because it kept me from getting into fights with people who picked them in High School.
kchenault Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 I would say get one that you like, not what we want to see on you. YOU are the one who has to live with it. Ken ChenaultTFT - It does a body good!
