It's very simple really Packer. Building muscle burns fat. Now I assume that you want to get muscular and strong but not bulky. For instance are you aiming to look like a bodybuilder i.e. schwarzenegger or an olympic weightlifter. If you just want to get more muscular what you are doing is fine. Once you start lifting the weights you will probably not lose alot of weight at first because the muscle growth will take up for the fat loss. The guys that are eating thousands and thousands of calories a day are either very very very muscular or very stocky. Best bet is to eat fairly normally...carbs proteins fats. Start lifting weights...if you start to feel week you can add back in more protein and carbs...aka musclebuilders and energy source.

One thing I've learned... there are no shortcuts to anything.

This doesn't even sound possible... or healthy. Especially at your age.

What doesn't sound healthy?

Anyways, I talked to my friend and I decided I'm just going to bulk up a little right now and then once I've bulked up I will cut which means lose any excess body fat.
