dtstiachi Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 I wonder if other people have this problem. I am flatfooted and wear insoles in my shoes when walking and playing sports. Since I do MA barefooted I was wondering if it affects my balance or my body alignment. Does anyone else have this problem and does it affect you? Thanks for your feedback. JusticeZero Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 I had this whole post written up, then I noted that your style was listed as taiji.I don't know. Exercise your ability to walk on the balls of your feet. You should be doing foot exercizes in addition to the arch support anyhow, since the doctor i've talked to about flat-footedness basically described the support as a minor supplement to your regimen of foot exercize. vertigo Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 I also wear insoles/orthodics in my shoes... but have never noticed any effect on my balance. I don't think it should have any adverse effects on balance and/or body alignment. (I think ) "Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go." - T. S. Eliot
Fish Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Im also flatfooted. It gave me a lot of problems running, but I haven't noticed any in karate. My balance isn't great, but I don't think that's my feet. "They can because they think they can." - School Motto.(Shodan 11th Oct 08)
Goju_boi Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 I'm part of the club 2.As for me it doesn't affect my balence or alignement. But my knees have been hurting badly(dunno if u seen my other post it tells all bout my problem).have u experienced this also, dtstaichi? https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
Zanejin Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 I'm flatfooted as well, and it used to affect my running, but after constant practice, my feet got used to it, and now I'm second in track and field at school. In karate class, on the other hand, I find a difficulty doing a perfect Neko Dachi (Cat Stance).I'm sure that being flatfooted does not affect one's balance or alignment, it may even help!
dtstiachi Posted April 22, 2005 Author Posted April 22, 2005 My knees have hurt in the past Goju_boi, but part of that was my fault. I was standing with my feet positioned improperly. This gave me some knee pain for a few days. Once I spoke to my assistant instructor at school about my problem they were able to observe what I was doing and correct the problem. I have not had any pain since then. "The journey of a 1,000 miles starts with but a single step."
