osuperu Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 hey alli train shotokan 3 times a weeks for 1.5 hours MWF nights and im trying to decide my running/wieght shedule, and if i should either workout earlier that day of just after practise. or just on the days i dont do MA training...what works best without overtraining (my groin/hips are killing me!), since ive just started MA?And what do you guys do?thanks
dtstiachi Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 I try to get into the gym to do Tai Chi at least 3 times a week (outside of the 2 days of class). On the days I don't do Tai Chi, I run. Listen to your body. It will tell you if you have overtrained. "The journey of a 1,000 miles starts with but a single step."
osuperu Posted April 18, 2005 Author Posted April 18, 2005 hey....i was kinda talking about weight lifting too. Because ive either been dead before training MA because i lifted before the class that day, or not had much energy for a, post MA training, wieghts workout.hmm does this mean that maybe my MA training is enough of me right now..well hey our sensei does practically kill us every MWF..ehh but i still want to know if its better to do your other workouts before or after a practise?
swdw Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 At least 8 hours between cardio and weight lifting for max gains. Don't lift on the same day you do karate
Jinxx0r Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 I lift weights on MWF in the afternoon, class days are Tues-Thurs-Sat. I always practice MA in the mornings before I go to work so I get technique stuff in fresh in the morning, every day.Yeah, on class days it's a kindof a double workout, but in the mornings I practice what I want to, and use class to learn and workout with a partner. You have to find what works out for you and your schedule. AnonymousOne Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 Try this:Monday - Saturday 6am Run 5 miles and finish 4 - 200 metre sprints on Monday, Wednesday and SaturdayDojo 3 times per week.On the evenings you are not at the dojo, do weights twice a week.Depending on your level of fitness, you may like to do some plyometric exercises after using weights. On the other night you are not at the dojo do some bag/makiwara work and other equipment you might have 7th Dan ChidokaiA true combat warrior has to be hard as nails in mind, body and soul. osuperu Posted April 22, 2005 Author Posted April 22, 2005 good advice all...so...and the concensus is to not work out the same day as MA training?...cus i have a nice hole in between classes in the mornings of the days of training. should i not lift wieghts?..or run instead? or niether, because ill be dead for MA training?thanks
Venrix Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 I don't know if it helps but I use a 'weekly rotation'. osuperu Posted April 26, 2005 Author Posted April 26, 2005 ok.... so how about practising the basics and my kata in those mornings and then going to MA training that same day?? my training time is 1 hour (actual training, exculding the stretching)
Venrix Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 I don't see why not. As you can see - that's my typical Thursday. -V- More than 200 pictures of Kyokushin technique. Kata outlined step by step. https://www.kyokushinbudokai.org (Homepage)Diary of a Full Contact Martial Artist (Diary)
