Want to develop real power and endurance in your legs?

Try body weight squats.

Build up to 500 in 15 minutes

Just use your own body weight and everytime you perform them, keep going until your muscles burn from pain

Try it!!

With one leg or two ? would the more intensity with one leg sqwats not do the same or better with less reps ? :-?

I realize that the balance factor would work the core muscles more but would it take away from the work on the leg muscles ? Do you also do one legged squats along with a high rep of two legged squats ?

KK7 I am wondering what would make you say that this routine would not be benifical to power and strength :-? At the intensity that THE ANYNONMOUS ONE works out at , explosiveness and power would most certainly be a result of this excersize . Stamina would seem to be a HUGE factor as well .

this wont develop power

I don't know... 500 is quite a bit, and this isn't exactly easy enough to begin with!

I think it would be pretty effective at building leg power.... I tried this a bit this afternoon, and found it pretty tough :P Not a bad idea at all...

Of course it won't build much power, but it should build some endurance. I don't know if it's all that necessary though.

Man, 500 is crazy! I can only do 60 at most! AnonymousOne, you must be really experienced at this exercise!

ok..so on these body squats...when you come up, its explosive i figure, but do you keep heels down?..or do you extend all the way through your calves onto the balls of your feet? also do you get air?

"It wont develop power"

I dont know whether to laugh or cry!!

This is an anaerobic exercise, when done properly, cuts into all your legs muscles.

It builds explosive power. Its not an exercise that is meant to be done slowly, but as quickly as possible.

The result is that it develops the muscles that are required for explosive kicks and bridging in foot work.

If you do it slowly you will not get much result in explosive power. You need to do them as fast as you can to train the fast twitch muscle fibers.

An alternative to this exercise is when you stand up perform a front kick or side kick and alternate legs.

Something with serious weight will build a lot of power. Something with low weight (like your body only) but higher reps (like 500!) builds more endurance. Of coure you'll get a small amount of power from the high reps, and vice versa for the heavy weight, but if you're interested in building power you need to press something really heavy a lot less times.
